Forums - Sony - PS3/Vita price cut coming?

zorg1000 said:

I think on feb 20 sony will annouce the 12gb PS3 to NA at $199 and drop the 500gb to $250 while phasing out the 250gb model. I also think they will drop the price of Vita to $199 with a 4gb memory card and drop the price of memory cards down one tier. Another thing I hope for is a combo bundle at $349 for a 12gb PS3/Vita and $399 for a 500gb PS3/Vita.

I think this is a fairly good prediction. However, my one caveat is that the market is looking so good for the yen right now that a price drop may not be in their best interest.

Regarding timing, the announcement of ps4 on the 20th is likely a good time, but the best time would be april 1.

I'd say:

199 12gb console on the 20th, 270 for 500gb with 2 games and ps+ for three months, no change on vita except maybe adding a 4gb card and 3 months ps+.

Then come April 1, vita price down to 199$ Potential ps3 bundle

At that rate they would probably be selling the hardware at a loss. Sony wants to sell the hardware at a profit and get more profits from digital downloads.

I don't think we'll ever see a PS3 for $199 or less with a hard drive. Sony should put out a $199 console with ~64GB of flash memory. That's plenty of space for the average user.

Bet?

He doesn't know what he's saying, excuse him.

New slim is likely very profitable for them, and they've already somewhat admitted that they could* have dropped the price back in holidays but chose not to.

LMAO!  You have got to be kidding, right?  What do you think the Super Slim was for?  It cut costs of production down dramatically from the Slim, which was already selling at a profit when they lowered the price to $250 (if only a slight one) in 2011.  Trust me, you will see a $199 PS3 this year, whether it be from the introduction of the 12GB SKU or just a price cut to their existing SKUs.  And you will see a $150 one either in 2014 or 2015.  And probably a $99-$129 one in the last year or so of the PS3's lifetime.

And as for your memory statement, why spend $30 bucks on 64GB worth of flash drives, when you could pay $50 for a decent 500GB HDD?  Sure, it's not portable, but that's nearly 8x the storage capacity.

You tell me it was profitable, but I'm reluctant to believe it. Don't bother posting quotes of claims its profitable, Sony tends to lie or spin the truth. If we didn't see the numbers they would fool us into believing Vita is doing great.

I said I don't think we'll see a PS3 for $199 or less with a hard drive. You mentioning the 12GB PS3 implies you missed the part I bolded.

You missed the point about the flash memory. A PS3 with 64GB of flash memory would be cheaper to produce than a PS3 with a hard drive of any size. So the odds of us seeing a $199 PS3 with no hard drive is more likely.

My post was actually pretty reasonable. Yet you responded in full defense mode. Chill the fuck out.

12gb lol?? Doubt that but I do see a price cut coming. Vita needs a $100 permanent price cut asap and I say $50 now for Ps3 cut and another $50 when ps4 launches

Why is 12gb so out of the question? its in europe already

America seems to account for much of the digal download market. So they wanna make sure we have the storage space to download games.

Shame you can't store games on USB storage.  64GB memory sticks are only $30. Hard drives aren't even essential anymore given how cheap flash memory is.

I don't own a hard drive on my primary Xbox 360. Two 32GB memory sticks is more than enough for the average person.

well in that case they could drop the 250gb to $199

Bet?

Okay, you can have a copy of Too Human if I'm wrong.

If I'm right, I won't even give a shit. Its a bet I can't win until they stop producing PS3s.

Oh I'm sure it could still be profitable at a lower price. But at $199? That would be impressive.

Maybe the 4GB could be profitable at $99. No Bluray, no hard drive, no cell. Meh? Who knows.

So you think in a few months Sony will have a PS3 with a hard drive on the market for $199? You got some balls on you, sir.

Hmmm... maybe they'll surprise us with a PS3 with no disc drive. You never know with Sony.

I believe they will announce a price drop at or imediatly after Ps3 and it will be one of significance. How much do you think the Ps4 which is launching this year sell at? You think they will have another 500/600 dollar console because if not then the pricing makes no sense for the ps3. I'm expecting a 350/400 dollar ps4 and a 250 ps3 makes no sense with that.
