Where has anyone said this is actually going air during the Superbowl?

The video is called "God of War: Ascension "From Ashes" Super Bowl 2013 Commercial" lol

It's on the Playstation channel.

And it's also been confirmed by Sony themselves:

http://www.complex.com/video-games/2013/01/the-god-of-war-ascension-super-bowl-ad-debuts-on-friday

It's only being shown on a superbowl STREAM. Last year the stream had 2.1 million viewers so...yeah...

Yeah I know lol

But Sony accordingly paid a lower cost for the spot. A spot they probably couldn't afford at all had it been a TV one. So I guess it's better than nothing.

My bad, I've been looking at the EU PlayStation channels. Should have looked at the US!!

I loved it until his emotional crying outbreak. I understand he has those emotions, and he should be able to express them, but it's just not how we've grown to see Kratos. Maybe if they had done the camera work and possibly let him express his sadness without us seeing his face contort so much, it would have been better.

I dont like Kratos in this. Also i don't think it's a good comercial... but what do i know....

They are appealing at your humanity/family bonds on the emotional side. Its not bad, but its terribly expensive and inneficient if you ask me.

I dunno. I've played God of War, and I know that I'm not a very big fan of the games(or the genre), but watching this ad somehow makes me want to buy the game anyway...

It worked on you then. I said it was innefecient in the ratio of people it will turn to how much it cost, compared to cheaper and more effective methods. I do believe that they are going for the non-GoW fan here, and it makes sense it that regard to have this commercial.

With that said, since its just one it doesnt work well. It would be best to get a 30 sec one twice during the break then this 2m one when you dont even understand what its about until kratos shows up (assuming you know him), otherwise only at the packshot. Its a waste.

I see what you mean. Had I never heard of GoW, I probably wouldn't have known wtf was going on, and, with them only showing it once, I'd probably forget about the whole thing by the time the game ends. Then again, how many superbowl ads are really all that effictive at attracting new consumers anyway? Sure, Coke might air two commercials, but everyone already knows what it is; and that Experia Play commercial wouldn't make any sense to a non-Android user. It almost seems like these days companies make these horrifyingly expensive(and awesome) commercials just for the hell of it.

Super bowl commericials are very good idea. They pay for one commercial that will reach more people than airing it multiple times for one. Also it isn't for "the hell of it" because companies usually make a shorter version of their super bowl commercial and aire it like a normal one. Basically getting their money out of the cost of making it. And lastly the next day every news station is showing "the best and worst" super bowl ads so they get replayed for free by news stations.

Wow.

I saw this was live action and I immediately got irritated. I feel Sony made a retarded move with their live-action PSASBR commercial bc it just wasn't very good (even worse bc they used it as their main marketing, yet it was completely devoid of actual gameplay).

BUT..this video was extremely well done. The most prominent feature of the video was emotion, and I feel this is exactly what GoW needed. I really think they nailed it. They effectively humanized Kratos, grounding him in true, realistic human emotion. It actually gave me chills. The video pretty well blew me away. Way better than I ever expected it would be.

They do? I wasn't aware of that(don't watch much live TV). And yeah, I didn't consider how much free publicity the ads get afterwards either. I guess they wouldn't bother dropping the dough if they didn't pay off somehow. It is business, afterall.

I still can't see the point of so many ads for uber-popular snacks and beverages like Coke and Doritos. You'd think that anyone watching the superbowl is already familiar with those, anyway.

Aw, you chickened out and removed your rant. :( Don't worry, though. I saved it for you. :)

Not sure how much the spot costs for the "online stream" but not sure if worth it.

It probably costs more than normal tv time (non superbowl commercials) and there are only 2.1 million viewers.

That's not very much. Dont' most tv shows primetime during a normal everyday week have like 10 million viewers?

As for the actual commercial, it was fine, but hated it for the sole fact that it seemed like it was borrowing too much from Gladiator movie.

Not a big fan of a game ripping off a movie like that.

It's bound to be more than 2.1 million this year. Streaming has come a long way since then. Also this time it will be available for tablets as well.
