I've dealt with this problem, or my gf actually.

She's overweight, and set with an overactive thyroid which gives her heart problems so the extraextra weight just makes her heart work even harder. I've done everything to manipulate her to start working out with me, but its like pulling teeth.

Here are my latest tricks-
-telling her how jealous her lady friends will be of her when she starts losing some
-telling her how i'm going to get jealous more often bc of all the extra attention that guys will give her

the dumb bitch even has kidney problems bc she's let her blood pressure be high for a long time....bc of the overactive thyroid and the weight adding onto it.

But, its still hard to get her to do anything.

I think that some dumb fukks just like to be fat and eat a lot.

Sorry for the anger, if this offends anybody but I love her fukkin dumbass and all.

How did these "tricks" work out? I was in a very similar situation with my girlfriend once, and tried to motivate her to with similar tricks. In my case, they didn't work out at all - quite the contrary, she started eating even more. Which I believe was because no matter what I said and how nice it sounded, what I really meant was "I really wish you were thinner", and the more I started talking about the topic, the more she took it as me criticizing her, which made her feel even worse, and ultimatively caused her to eat even more. It's was a vicious circle.

So I believe your strategy is dangerous: You might win and your tactics will indeed give her the huge motivation push that these people need. But you could just as well fail, in which case you might make the situation even worse, both for you and your girlfriend.

If you want your girlfriend thinner, my advice would be not to directly fight her obesity. Because her obesity is probably just the visible effect of a personal problem(s) lying below; if you "solve" the problem(s) below, the problem(s) above will sooner or later disappear by itself.

The problems will disappear if you ignore them and provide emotional support above all else?  Nothing.

Some people, just like some animals (fat cats and whatnot) like to eat more than they need.  In my case, my gf only hangs around other chubby girls as they are easier to bond with and therefore it gets harder to get her to take care of herself bc she has the socalled support group.

I ended up buying her running shoes and a gym membership and she's worked out mabey 2 times a week but lost only 11 pounds.  I could really care less about how weight as far as how she looks bc she's great in bed, she's a great fukk to have.

The only reason that I care about weight is for her health, I want her around with me for a longer time, guess i'm selfish like that.

So, I've had some success with the gym membership and whatnot but I want more effort out of her.

I did change. I lost 70 pounds to get to my correct body shape. Now I eat healthy and exercise. I run a 5k nearly every day now.

Before I decided to get healthy I never made a conscious decision to be over weight. I just ate what I wanted and did what I wanted without regard for my health. That meant I ate a lot of nachos and instead of exercise I sat around watching TV and playing video games. It didn't happen over night. I was skinny in elementary school, but had no interest in sports or any physical activities. After puberty I started gaining weight, but my habits had already set in and it probably didn't help that gaming systems like the Playstation, N64 and Saturn had some of the most immerse games ever made thanks to the new 3rd dimension. The weight creeped up on me.

One day I decided enough is enough. No more bad choices. I started counting calories and making up my own recipes to maximize flavor while optimizing my daily calorie intake. I started walking, then jogging and finally running. After a year I ran my first 5k and since then it's become a part of my regular work out. I bought a mini stationary bike so I can burn casual calories when playing games or watching TV. I no longer do whats fast and easy when it comes to food and activity.

It was a life choice not a diet. I'll be doing this for as long as I live. I feel so much better and I didn't even know I didn't feel good before. Dropping over 70 pounds was just the beginning of my new healthy life. I still eat my favorite foods and play my favorite video games I just balance it with a healthy lifestyle.

Probably for similar reasons as people not being able to quit smoking/alcohol/drugs whatever even though they would like to.

Food is addicting, basically.

We should make food illegal for those who are under 18!

Imagine if they made fast food illegal for those under 18?

I would rather fast food be made illegal. Entirely. =) Oh well...

In my personal experience, I see a correlation between obesity and lack of self-discipline and/or low self-esteem. The people in my life that I consider to be short on or lacking any sort of self-discipline in all or most areas of their life (academics, exercise, diet, fiscal responsibility, sexuality) also tend to be the people who clearly could lose some pounds but don't put in the work to do so.

Some people don't care, some people love to eat, some people are lazy, some people have terrible self-control, some people have unfortunate genetics which is extra bad when coupled with one of the above.

I used to be quite overweight, still am a little but you can hardly tell. I only lost 2 stones, but it wasn't easy, and it's not like you can just turn a switch in your head that gives you all the motivation in the world to exercise and kills any cravings for junk food.

Your answer to this question is perfect.

Everyone isn't perfect, and if not skinny isn't high enough on their priority it's fine and their choice. If you want to be overweight and have the benefits of eating tasty food. That's you're choice. If youwan

I do get annoyed, when certain people that are fat complain about health issues and how they can't lose weight. while eating an extra portion and a soda, and then complain about being fat.

I know some people stay skinny easier, some people can eat 50 hot dogs and still look like a twig. Some small percentage have a thyroid problems.

But in General it has to do with eating habits and exercise, specifically especially in the U.S. where the obesity rates are insane and the portions are bigger than anywhere else. Is this just a coincidence?

Oh, dear Lord... are you also going to tell us what food we can and cannot buy at the grocery store, too?

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

Or make it overly bureaucratic, like you're at the DMV or something. "Oh, you want a Big Mac? Please take a number and feel out these forms."

i am a bit overweight and have lately been gaining weight, mostly due to eating too much.

The reason for the eating has been stress for my part, i recently worked on my final exam paper for my degree and i simply did not have the ressources to count calories and excercise, however now that i have finished that i am going to be starting again.

i used to weigh 107kg (235 lbs in the fall of 2011), and in the spring of 2012 i was down to 84kg(185 lbs), the exam period ran from summer 2012 until end of january this year, currently i am sitting at 92-93kg(202 lbs).

i know i can lose the weight and i did it fairly easy, it just takes some mental and physical ressources to do so.

As an overweight person I always have to laugh when notoriously skinny people brag about how they go to the gym and that's why they are in shape. Look I go to the gym too and probably work out even more than you do. You're not skinny becuase you go to the gym. You're most likely predisposed to being leaner. Some one who is predisposed to gaining weight has to work a lot harder than you do to keep the weight off. That's like telling someone who has a much lower iq than me that I'm smart because I read books. It wouldn't matter how many books they would read they wouldn't retain the information and their brains would quickly go back to thinking about sports and bikinins.

The thing to keep in mind is that people like me have to dedicate absolutely every aspect of our lives and our minds to lose weight which ends up meaning huge sacrifices in other areas of our lives. For me it would mean giving up serious gaming, I would have to be less dedicated to my business, ect ect.

I used to be in better shape because I working out and ate like a body builder but then I hurt my arm and now i can't lift weights. With the Canadian medical system i takes a long time to get me arm back into shape. The next thing they are going to try is an injection of cortizone. I hope that works.

The simple answer is that it's not nearly as easy for someone who is predisposed to weight gain than you think.

I'm very aware of body types and I want to ask you if you are aware of each?

Ectomorph
Mesomorph
Endomorph

An ecomorph typically has a fast metabolism very skinny.  They have a hard time gaining weight but have no problem losing weight.

Mesomorph can either gain or lose weight easily

Endomorph gain weight easily but have a hard time losing it.

i could go a lot more into each one but yes im aware of body types

So doesn't that knowledge alone go a long way towards answering your question?

Also this is only different body types.  There's also mental illnesses and other illnesses or disorders which can contribute.
