As an overweight person I always have to laugh when notoriously skinny people brag about how they go to the gym and that's why they are in shape. Look I go to the gym too and probably work out even more than you do. You're not skinny becuase you go to the gym. You're most likely predisposed to being leaner. Some one who is predisposed to gaining weight has to work a lot harder than you do to keep the weight off. That's like telling someone who has a much lower iq than me that I'm smart because I read books. It wouldn't matter how many books they would read they wouldn't retain the information and their brains would quickly go back to thinking about sports and bikinins.

The thing to keep in mind is that people like me have to dedicate absolutely every aspect of our lives and our minds to lose weight which ends up meaning huge sacrifices in other areas of our lives. For me it would mean giving up serious gaming, I would have to be less dedicated to my business, ect ect.

I used to be in better shape because I working out and ate like a body builder but then I hurt my arm and now i can't lift weights. With the Canadian medical system i takes a long time to get me arm back into shape. The next thing they are going to try is an injection of cortizone. I hope that works.

The simple answer is that it's not nearly as easy for someone who is predisposed to weight gain than you think.

I'm very aware of body types and I want to ask you if you are aware of each?

Ectomorph
Mesomorph
Endomorph

An ecomorph typically has a fast metabolism very skinny.  They have a hard time gaining weight but have no problem losing weight.

Mesomorph can either gain or lose weight easily

Endomorph gain weight easily but have a hard time losing it.

i could go a lot more into each one but yes im aware of body types

So doesn't that knowledge alone go a long way towards answering your question?

Also this is only different body types.  There's also mental illnesses and other illnesses or disorders which can contribute.

I am very knowledgeable on how to gain and lose weight both as you have to learn about that stuff if you want to stay in prime shape and I get that not everybody will want to, i get that.  I'll use Brad Pitt as an example.  He is an ectomorph and he had to get to about 190 lbs for the movie Troy.  That is insane for an ectomorph so he put the work into it to get there.  He gained around 20-25 lbs of lean muscle for that movie, and for an ecomorph gaining weight is like an endomorph losing weight.  It is hard.

My point is, that you can do it so I just wondered why people choose not to.  I should have probably said obese and not overweight as that was my real question.  Anyways the mental illness and disorderes makes sense so I appreciate your answer.

I don't have a problem with people being obese or anything, but living in a state that is in the top 5 fattest states is bad.  Plus I live in amerace which means my state would be the fattest in the world.  I find it to be kind of embarrassing that America is getting looked at as being overweight and lazy.  And honestly I find that to be the main issue. Just being lazy or i assume anyways.  That is why im asking and people has been giving good responses including you :)

I would rather fast food be made illegal. Entirely. =) Oh well...

Oh, dear Lord... are you also going to tell us what food we can and cannot buy at the grocery store, too?

That's entirely what I plan on doing. Here's your list:

Food you cannot buy: food for yourself.

Food you can buy: Great tasting food for me.

Get on it!

I want to gain a couple of kg but to lazy to work out these day

anywho some people try to lose but no matter what they do they can't

Using Brad Pitt is probably the worse example you could possible provide. He's paid millions of dollars to stay in shape. He has people who will cook his food for him, plan his diet, he has people who will coach him through all of his training. It's a rediculous comparison to comepare him to the guy that has to do all of these things for himself on top of having a family to take care of a full time job ect ect. I'm sure you can do a lot better than that.

There are a lot of different factors.

Sometimes it's time. When I'm crunching at work (working minimum 12 hour days) I don't have time to workout and I'm probably sitting most of the day. I'm also getting fed whatever I'm given and that isn't always healthy. While working on my last project, I gained a lot of weight because I crunched for well over a year, didn't eat healthy, and didn't work out because I didn't have the time or energy.

Sometimes it's lack of willpower. I know I should eat healthy and I do generally try (I'm down a total 8 pounds in the last month :)), but sometimes you just want that hamburger or whatever unhealthy.

Sometimes I don't have time to cook and have to eat out or order.  I once listened to Alton Brown speak at a book signing and he had a great quote when someone asked him why we're fat-- "American isn't overweight because of what they eat at home."  When I cook at home, I generally cook on the healthier side (though not all the time >_>) but when I eat out, I don't always have control over what I get and how healthy it is.  It's all overly salty huge portions with who knows what in it.  At least I've gave up fast food long ago.

Sometimes I'm just lazy. There are days I wake up and I know I should go to the gym, but I just don't want to.

All in all, if you're overweight, it is difficult to not be overweight. There are so many factors that lead to you just staying the same or getting worse and it's an incredible uphill battle the whole way to get back down to a good weight. I would love to lose another 10-15 pounds, but it's difficult and most of it just me. I'm getting there, but it's hard work.

Six months ago I was pushing 230 pounds, today I'm at 214 so I'm getting there.

Most people care more to sit down all day and play video games I guess.

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

Some people don't think about the future, how they are probably gonna die prematurely.

Some are too lazy to put in the effort, so they accept who they are and say nothing is wrong with it (though its clearly unhealthy).

-low standards perhaps and certainly not self conscious.
