Forums - Gaming - Adam Sessler Sets Fox News Straight

I also thought years ago that Videogames should be called INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE and in case of really really bad ones they should be called Interactive Frustration Software or something similar ;)

Someone needs to set The Sess straight about that beard. It's fucking awful.

Marcus you posted this before me but know this, I will have my vengeance in this life or the next.

That was actually a good interview. Good on both the interviewer and interviewee's part.

I always liked Adam Sessler. Man of class.

I find it ironic that the conservative side is forwardly accepting that people's behavior can be socialized when they so adamantly accept the failure of communist attempts at socialization and outrage at modern policy centered socialism.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Good ole Sessler telling them how it is.

He performed admirably, but I think saying "games aren't for kids" at the end was a bit of a cop-out.

Some games are for kids. Some of those games (rated T) even involve violence - just look at the Uncharted series. It's rarely murder, more commonly self defence or acts of war, but it's quite clearly fictional. It has nothing in common with real violence at all. Moving the right analog stick and pressing R1 is nothing like actually raising a gun and shooting somebody.

It should also be highlighted (brightly) that it really is fewer than one in a million gamers who would ever do anything like Aurora or Newtown, and to be perfectly honest they may well have done it without games anyway. Mass murder existed long before the Magnavox Odyssey came out in 1972, and certainly before games started approaching recognisable levels of realistic violence in the last decade or so.

I remember this debate back in the 80's and 90's, but back then it was action movies with Stallone, Schwarzenegger and Van Damme that got the blame for school bullying, kids fighting on the streets etc. Even murder.

Violence has been a part of human society since society was formed, it lies in social structure, economy, educational level and frustrations, sexual impulse, fear and alienating, minority oppression, oppression of human rights, general inequality, religion and the big baddie in the western world; phychology and depression, especially in these instances with school shootings.

Video games and violent action movies, however, have very little to do with this. One of the primary reasons why games get the blame now is that they have made their appearance and way into the mainstream media more than before, the whole world is exposed to them even if they never play them. People are aware that games exist but know virtually nothing about how they're made, who makes them, who buys the games and under which circumstances and they know least of all whether there's a connection between real life violence and violence in games and movies.
Why don't they ban the news? Showing violent footage there happens all the time and that's even from real life, its not like a news broadcast has a rating system. Depicting violence in in pixel form or in exaggerated motion that is mostly a carricature of reality is shunned while showing actual pictures of real violence is accepted, that, to me, is seriously twisted logic.

I think my above examples are what drives violence in real life, not video games.
