Forums - Sony Discussion - New 'Killzone Mercenary' Details Surface; Like A Portable 'Killzone 3'

If its good it will do some decent numbers in the longrun, and it could be a prime example of what the Vita can do.

Oh god they not going to ruin it with touchscreen gimmicks are they?  It is totally impractical to reach over and do that when holding the Vita properly.

I'm quite sure that you don't need to exactly follow the arrows in the middle of the screen for gesture to work. You just need to do the same thing anywhere in screen. At least that's what I've did in Uncharted and it worked just fine. And when you are holding Vita is easy and comfortable to reach on the screen with your thumb.

I'll give them a try.

This year is gonna be good.

It's too late! My hopes are already up, and this gameplay footage looks really good considering the game isn't finished yet. I know it probably won't look identical to KZ 3 but even if it's 50% of what KZ 3 was graphically then I will still be impressed.

This is from the Polish magazine that covered the game recently - "The touch screen controls are done in a way that is not invasive and feels natural to the game".

back in feb 2011 when sony announced the vita they said that there will be a call of duty, uncharted, resistance and killzone, i really doubt that they would give just a year for sony cambridge to make the game when they knew 2 years ago they would be making it. this game would have atleast been in development for atleast 2 years by the time its released, considering that sony bend had 2 years to develop uncharted GA

Studio Cambridge's last game was released in October 2010.  I'd assume they maybe did a bit of cross-studio work with Guerrilla helping to finish KZ3, but otherwise, I'd imagine they'd have been working on KZ Mercenary since early 2011.  So it'll have had two-and-a-bit years of development, plenty of time really (Bend had two-and-a-half years developing UC Golden Abyss, but they were working without finalised dev kits).

Resistance was the rush job to get out early in Vita's life; Call of Duty was the 5-month-development-cycle game Activision pumped out when they realised Black Ops 2 wouldn't run on Vita.  Killzone has always been the 'big' game that was supposed to push graphics and multi-player capabilities on the console, in my opinion.  So let's hope it turns out well!  From what I've seen so far, I don't have any worries.

How do you hold the Vita? It is really easy and practical to do motions like that. As long as it isn't the terrible Uncharted Golden Abyss way of cutting bamboo, it will be fine. Seriously Uncharted, the only good cutting was when it was one zig zag motion. The seperate cuts with a delay were really bad. All they need to do with KZ is to keep it fluid.

In fact, you know what would be really awesome? If they included knife kills like that in mutliplayer where the attacker executes the swiping cuting motions AND the defender executes blocking and grappling with swiping motions. Too slow and you get stabbed. Fail to stab your opponent, watch them turns the tides on you. Imagine real time multiplayer wrestling with a knife where you had to block the knife, punch the guy in the face, spin him over and try to stab him yourself! A man can dream can't he?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

So far this is the only Day1 buy Vita game for me in 2013! Very hyped for it! I hope Killzone4 is a Ps4 launch game too.

I'm not real excited about Killzone in general but an awesome FPS for Vita is exciting. I hope the story is pretty good as that is where the Killzone franchise has lacked in the past IMO. I have hopes for this though as Guerilla is the dev
