is Monilith Software's new game somthing for square enix to worry about?

yes, they should be very worried 84 35.59%

they should be kinda worried 52 22.03%

X will do well, but wont ... 78 33.05%

No X wont do that well and FF is fine 21 8.90%

Total:235

I think Square has more in its own studios to worry about than what others are producing. Square keeps trying to make Final Fantasy into some westernized bastardization of an RPG, and messing up the series.

The Enix side is absolutely fine, the Enix side continues to release quality and profitable games.

OK about the weapons.

MH3G is the very first MH on 3DS. Most of the fanbase is still on PSP. You can't expect everyone to just suddenly buy a 3DS for it. Not to mention it's the third game of the MH3 series of games, excluding MHP3 HD. I don't think you should say anything conclusive until we see how MH4 sells.

As for that club, that's anectodal. But again, you can't expect everyone to just move on to 3DS with its first game, especially with a smaller userbase, and there being already 2-3 MH3 games available already.

What kind of changes are you talking about that are alienating veterans? If manga collabs for a handful of optional weapons are turning away veterans it doesn't seem like they want to play the games much anymore anyway. Not like MHP3 didn't have manga collabs:

These alienated veterans can't account for much than a very small portion of the total MH base. I mean MH didn't really boom till its third game on PSP with Unite.

As for Famitsu, it's a small sample (as are much of these types of lists), but it still shows that hardcore players are interested. But then again it's MH4.

Oh wow the Negima artist worked on 3rd? I raise you a http://www.siliconera.com/2013/01/04/fairy-tail-creator-made-gear-for-monster-hunter-4/

Pretty sick.

I think we've come full circle back to my original post that Capcom should be the one worried about any new and amazing Monster Hunter-esque RPG games. We've clearly demonstrated here that the Monster Hunter series is in a precarious situation due to the shift in hardware platforms and audience. And we know that Capcom has been trying to move the Monster Hunter series onto home consoles (historically bad but improved with Tri) and into the Western market (also historically bad or ignored). If this "X" game proves to be superior or is embraced by a large number of players, it could erode Capcom's desired markets.

I'd also like to point out that the Portable series has taken on its own life from the success of MHP2G, and MHP3 has nothing to do with MH3/G.

But yes, I agree that there's nothing conclusive until MH4 is actually released.

I'm curious as to why Monster Hunter even became a topic in this thread. Xenoblade wan't Monster Hunter. I think people that didn't play Xenoblade are jumping to conclusions about X.

In terms of quality, yes. In terms of sales, no.

I was surprised by xeno. I just recently started playing it and while graphics are terrible to today's standards as a whole it's a beautiful game. The last 5-7 years from FF sucked. In my opinion.
I don't think square has to worry about monolith(yet), but if you made the studios equal size and resources I would put money on the monolith game being much more fun and interesting.

What I'm most excited about is xeno is such a good game on the wii that I can't wait to see what to play what they are doing this go around. I could care less if the graphics completely wow me. Hell guild wars 2 and even world of Warcraft amaze me; imagine how an HD xeno experience will be:).

Finish Xenoblade 1st, that game is art.

Then just wait for "X" to come out.

I think everyone forgets that what Square actually worries about right now is FF XIV. I mean FF XI may have been the most financially successful FF game but the mmo scene has changed and they have been throwing for months and months tons of money into "A realm reborn" that might as well bring them to their knees if it doesn't go well. Who really cares about ios crap, those games don't cost them sh!t compared to FF XIV.

Does anyone fear that FF XIV might be their undoing ?
