I thought this was a joke, you wanna compare a series that has been around since the 80s to a 1st party dev that just put a game out, that while it did well critically, Ninty itself didnt have much faith in? Yeah no. SE is still making money. Even if you wanna talk quality, there have been better JRPGS released for years now why would they worry about just this ONE? Makes no sense

I'm surprised people still think Versus is coming out.  It is very doubtful that the game will still release this gen, they would have to port it to the next gen consoles and I think by that point square will be trying to ditch the XIII universe.  Personally, I don't expect to ever see Versus get released...

It has no bad impact. If something the sucess will open up the market to more choices.

I think capcom should be more worried because it seems to crosses into monster hunter territory, and monster hunter doesnt have a version especially made for home consoles.If the japanese surrender to it, it might decrease the popularity of monster hunter.

Square Enix flushed them selfs down the toilet with all those crappy western games. Square Enix is gooooone for good.

If you're good at something keep doing it. Why change ?

Brand recognition is a big thing, so Final Fantasy will always be the "king", as it were.

The last good FF was X, so anything could take the last FFs crown, its currently with NinoKuni.

Monolith showed that they roll with the big guys.  they are making the games Square should have been making.

But,

Monolith publishes on Nintendo Platforms only. Square is multiplatform, so there is not much conflict.

Also, RPGs are only released every few years, so they really do not eat each others sales.

So the answer is No, square should not be worried from a sales perspective, but

They should be worried from an image perspective.  People expect the best from Square and to be outdone by a small game company more than once is humiliating.

Square Enix and Final Fantasy is already dead. You can't beat someone who's already dead.

Capcom should be more worried because this looks like Monster Hunter (and Phantasy Star Online 2), only with far better graphics and mecha.

Monster Hunter is on a heavy decline in Japan, and this might end up being the replacement for Nintendo.
