Nintendo has been pushing away 3rd party devs for ages now it's their fault not ours.

"Hay Nintendo please give us moneys for games"

"No fuck off"

What? Nintendo's issues with third party devs used to be about contracts when they were one on one with Sega, but they were in a third party monopoly back then. Their issues N64 period on had to do with tech.

For the most part, yes. With the Wii, I don't think I can agree. Western devs could not find the magic Nintendo unlocked to make the Wii work, thus making their own issues with the Wii their own fault. Again...its still a tech issue. Where Nintendo was to blame there was because of old tech even though they found a new way to game and draw in casuals.

So the reason why Nintendo has problems with third parties is because said third parties refuse to take business opportunities due to childish behavior. "Nintendo, you didn't treat us well 20 years ago and we'll never forgive you for that!"

Third parties had a valid gripe with Nintendo until the Wii, thats when they started getting ridiculous. Check out the vids. Regardless, Nintendo has to suck it up and pull themselves back up. If they want the core gamer with the Wii U and the casuals they need to prove it can win over both. They haven't had a console that dominant and popular since the SNES.

I honestly have not even touched my wii since xenoblade.
Without third party they can't win.

So Nintendo did with GCN with what Sony is doing with the PSVita now.....

???

The piracy part.

GCN discs and PSVita memory cards.

Yes, Nintendo was still worried about piracy at that time and it hurt them with third parties still. DVD was far more desirable than the special made discs Nintendo funded a second party to make.

Oh, Nintendo won, they just didnt need to "serious gamers" to do it. If you are battling it out for serious gamers you must have third parties on your side. First party alone will not help. We'll see how the Wii U does long term, but I believe the power of their competitors tech will spell out bad news for multiplat ports.

It seems to me like they just won't meet third parties half way, since the SNES, there has always been a factor that has made them difficult to deal with. Cartridges for the N64, mini disks for GCN, and Motion control for the Wii. I really don't understand why they can't just make a system that embraces third parties rather than just closing it off to only be optimized by their own first parties. It's frustrating. The Wii U should by all means do better than it's three predecessors. I don't think it will look as antiquated as the Wii was power wise (still wish they would just use an appropriate amount of power), it has disks that won't really slow anyone down, it supports a classic controller, and the gamepad doesn't even have to be implemented like motion controls, devs can simply use play on the controller feature if they are lazy.

Nintendo needs to play nice, and work hard to get the 3rd party support we as fans deserve. The Wii U seems like a more attractive proposition for devs who don't want to be limited than it's predecessors, but right now, Nintendo needs to get more units to people, because devs don't like small userbases showing little growth.

Tagging for my morning browsing session.

What was the problem with the GameCube? You mentioned the discs, but that wasn't a valid problem when most games at that time didn't exceed 1.5GB anyway.

How is Nintendo supposed to win over the core gamer when Nintendo games are automatically not core and third parties don't make core games for the Nintendo platform? Seems like a lost cause.

Lastly, you make a lot of sense. The Wii only sold twice as much hardware and software as the SNES, so it logically follows that the Wii was less dominant and popular than the SNES.

When I say the SNES was more popular, I meant their core games and games for the family were equally popular on the Wii it wasn't equal at all and the third party titles were not helping anything.

Some devs had no issues with the 1.5GB of space, but the majority had bigger games in mind that would would put the 8GB DVD's of the PS2 and Xbox to use. For now thats all I can say.

The Wii U is quite a mature console, so we'll see how it does with the core. I cannot completely say for now, but if its based on tech, I dont think it will get the attention of the core over the anticipation of the next Playstation and Xbox. How those companies deal with their consoles will make or break how Nintendo does. Nintendo's first party offerings will definitely be the strength of the Wii U as it was before with the Wii and going back to the N64 when all they could rely on was first and second party.
