You can't diss a console, Homie.

Man, I just don't get your definition of "core games." Nintendo lost a lot of third parties to the Genesis that generation, and that was when they had only one competing console to worry about. I don't think you're taking the competition into account -- of course Call of Duty didn't sell very well on Wii, there were much better versions of the game available for competing consoles.
Suggesting that Super Metroid and A Link to the Past are not "core games" is blasphemy imo.

No dissing involved bruh just some constructive criticism.

Anyone could play a link to the past. I learned how to play that game when first started gaming. Metroid was a nice change of pace though, I wouldnt deny metroids place as a core title, but there were more challenging games done by third parties. Nintendo always had a way of making games tailor made for their consoles though.

You specifically mentioned Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct and Contra before. You do realize that pretty much any fighting game could be played by just mashing the buttons? There's nothing demanding about getting into them. People could use the Konami cheat for Contra (and most kids did), so seeing the end of the game wasn't much of a challenge either. It's also worth pointing out that Killer Instinct was a first party game. Not the first that this has happened to you. Famous "third party" games for the Wii include The Last Story and Xenoblade Chronicles, after all. |
Not MK and Killer Instinct. Those games had strict button commands. Newbs would get owned in the arcade when I was little and would just watch the more experienced players destroy inexperienced gamers. Those games cannot be put up with the button mashers. When you heard "Ultra" in a house party with the SNES it meant your fight was over. Its not even fair to compare those games to the button mashers that were soon to follow mostly in the form of 3D fighters.

On that note, what do you think happens, if you put an experienced Mario Kart player against an inexperienced gamer? What do you think happens, if you put an experienced Tetris player against a Tetris newbie in a vs. match? |
This is getting way off base, but I am not implying that Mario Kart doesn't take skill. I am just implying that it is a family made game that has the ability to be mastered just like most Nintendo first party. You wouldnt play KI with your family would you?

Let's remove the word "core" from the discussion. It's a buzzword that varies in meaning depending on who's using it, and it only breeds confusion and misunderstanding. So what you're saying is the the SNES was more appealing to experienced gamers looking for a challenge than the Wii is?
EDIT: No, I see it now. You were saying that the SNES library was balanced to cater equally to experienced gamers looking for a challenge and inexperienced gamers who enjoyed more straightforward experiences, while the Wii library leans far in favor of the crowd looking for simpler games.

Around 4:40 in the first video linked in the OP. It's not like all the third parties abandoned Nintendo for the Genesis, but this was the beginning of the exodus.
