I had friends in the C64 camp while I owned a Spectrum +3, we used to go at it all the time when the subject came up, until the Amstrad weirdo in the class would pipe up then it was gang up on the strange kid time with his green monitor.

Same thing happened with the Amiga and Atari ST, Game gear and Gameboy, Mega drive and SNES, etc, etc.  In the PC world you have ATI and Nvidia, Intel and AMD, Linux and Windows.  

People just love to justify their purchases.

When I was a kid, I had "He-Man" action figures. My neighbor had "Blackstar" or whatever his name was. He-Man had his own cartoon, girlfriend, powerful sword, etc. So did Blackstar. I had He-Man and I thought He-Man was better so I was convinced I was the one having the most fun. He had Blackstar and he thought he was having more fun than I was. It was my mission to convince him that he was wrong to have fun with his toys. He should be jealous of me and my toys or buy the same toys I had. Anything less was just not right.

And it grew from there.


In my town, there are people that preferred Ford trucks to Chevy trucks. To me, it was dumb as hell. They were both just trucks. Ran on gas, had four tires, took you from here to there. Yet these assholes had a truck feud. We are no different. People are passionate about their choices for absolutely no reason.

i think the internet never lets anything go to sleep anymore and is immediate but really humans will bicker all day long if you let them and then make love

oh and i was one of those who thought i wish i had a commodore 64 back in the day

Nothing like a good fanboy fight, I think its a normal part of video games.

dont know when it all started in general but for me it was ps1 and n64 era, i believe that the rise occurred around 99-07 when video games seen a big advancement since the 80s and 90s aswell as the internet hype

i believe that it can develop for a gamer when they get serious into gaming and affects an average age range of 12-23 although there are cases of it still remaining well after 23

for me it is/was a bit of jealousy and strong biasness for your console of choice. the jealousy comes from when your console of choice starts loosing 3rd party exclusives, also when there are other features and games that are on other consoles... you feel that shouldnt happen b/c the biasness tells you your console is the best
