Forums - General - Consoles and fanboys, historically, where did this hate come from?

Not just consoles, it's anything related to 'Geek Culture'.

Geeks/nerds/dweebs whatever often become very protective and defensive of the things they're 'into' and think they're the only person in the world who truly 'gets it', therefore anyone who actively seeks out a rival product becomes their sworn enemy, a pleb in their eyes... so they retreat back to their basements and their fungus collections...and write nasty things on the internet (where no one really knows who they are) in an act of revenge.

I don't have  a basement(to close to the water) but I do have a gamer room. Not sure what you mean by fungus collection (hippie). LOL  Let me think of something nast to write.

Chicken with peanut butter, mayonnaise, ketchup, ovaltine and pickles on top.  NOw thats nasty. If you don't think so I want a pic of you eating it.

With the PS360 its fairly easy to trace where it started. After the PS3 launch the X fans started throwing mud at sonyfans accusing PS3 of not having any games, bad ports, they also created wii60 groups and ps3 songs etc. Sony fans retaliated with the 360 song, bringing up RROD and hd dvd. Chad Warden perfectly summed up what was wrong with the competition and concluded the fanboy wars lol.

360/PS3 actually started in the previous generation, and nothing like how you stated.

Since multiple consoles existed, there have been fanboys. The only thing now is there is so many different mediums for them to easily express themselves.

as I mentioned before, I guess the internet helped facilitate all of of this....

But in a previous post someplace above, somebody said playground fist fights over it??

Really?

Because I don't remember anything like that back in the day, but again maybe I was just too young....

As ridiculous as it seems, I wouldn't doubt it. Maybe you were just lucky.
