To much FPS', waggleware and games that want to be movies so bad that they take it out on the gamer.

This, so much this. This gen's move towards "cinematic" games is the worst thing to happen to gaming since Sega went third party.

I'd add "sports games" too. Stuff like Wii Sports Resort gets a pass for physically fun controls, but stuff like Madden, FIFA, official games of the Olympics, etc. aren't worth the discs they're printed on.

Not counting games from previous gens that can be downloaded:

12 of my top 50 games are on the Wii

2 of my top 50 are on PS3 (though 1 is a port of a Wii game.)

1 of my top 50 are on 360

The Wii.

Great topic! Six months ago, I would have easily said the PS3, but I have to be realistic here - the 360 not only came first, but picked up much slack where I expected the PS3 to dominate my heart. Xbox LIVE is, in a nutshell, a better service for me. Some of my longest play-times in history reside with the 360, and I've made a good deal of friends over the network that will become life long.

On the flip-side, I admit that I prefer the visuals the PS3 has pumped out, Netflix, many of the exclusives, and PlayStation HOME, but I can longer say, definitively, which one is better. Just to put it simple - they complement each other, I couldn't be without either of them.

Noooooooooooooooooooooo!! You have gone over to the dark side. Or at least are flirting with it.

Lol, nah. Just trying to size up the gen. I only ever disliked Microsoft's ways and some of their employees, Greenberg comes to mind. But the 360 is a warrior, I never expected it to equal the PS3.

Getting a PC also helped me realize some stuff.

Heh. Its all cool. So long as you are enjoying yourself and your console(s).

On another note, I found the poll readings very interesting. There is a big nintendo fan base on this site and a much smaller xbox one (at least if you believe the polls and forums) but the low preference numbers for the Wii in this poll suggests that maybe those same nintendo fans havent been as happy with the Wii as the sony fans with the ps3 and the xbox fans with the xbox.

The Wii fo sho. The first console that I bought since the SNES. Brought back old school platforming and for the first time sold me on the idea of 3D platforming. I could never really get into games like Mario 64 but now that Galaxy introduced me to 3D platforming, I want to get it on my brand spiffing new Virtual Console. Oh yeah, did I mention the Virtual console? The greatest collection, of the greatest games, made by the greatest companies on one System. The Wii. Next up for me to buy, A link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Chrono Trigger, FFVI, DKC 2 & 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario Bros. 3 and many other games that I either miss, or missed.

Also, motion controls are pretty fun, Zelda SS was amazing. The Wii also had the best JRPGs of this gen-not counting Ni No Kuni :'(-with Xenoblade and the Last Story. It might not have had to biggest number of JRPGs but it had the best.

Honestly, I love Nintendo exclusives but they lost me when they went purely 3D and in the weird experimental faze of the GCN. However, now that I have all the 2D goodness that I want (Epic Yarn, NSMBWii, DKCR ect...) I was more than willing to experiment with those new fangled 3D games and whatnot. I also have a backlog of GCN games I want to try out like Pikmin, Wind Waker, F-zero, and maybe Baten Kaitos.

Oh yeah. Metroid Prime Trilogy FOR......THE.......WIIIIIIIIIN

Edit: And for those of you who thinks Nintendo lost its way with the Wii and sold out......they didn't, they finally found their way back on the right track and the Wii U looks like it's going to continue that trend.

This I also agree with.

Nintendo almost lost me with the Gamecube, but the Wii was a return to form.

I highly disagree. Most of my favourite games are "cinematic" and some sports games are really fun, like FIFA.

I don't get it either. People just lump everything together. There are so many old school kind of games with hard challenging gameplay. Those barely sell though. I don't know why these complaining people are not buying multiple copies of those. Personally very happy with the generation. The controls are much better, the normal difficulty is normal and not impossible. Also games can be patched (that is both good and bad as sometimes they don't test them enough). Best value for money with price drops and multiplayer options. People just want to live in the past with their nostalgic memories.

I didn't own a 360 so that one is out.

I enjoy owning a PS3 but it tarnished that enjoyment when it died on me after 3 months and needed replacing.

I owned more Wii games than I ever have/did for any other system past or present.

So I have to say the Wii.

It's not about nostalgia or living in the past. One could equally say the love for the 7th gen is based on "ooo, it's shiny and new!"

There have been some positive changes in the 7th gen, like motion controls and production values, but I believe there's been just as much negative change so it balances out about equal with the 6th gen.

For me, games are about fun first and foremost. That's their entire reason for existing, as essential as a car's ability to move. When you take control away from the player, you take away the fun. So many games today take what would have been a playable sequence last generation and replace it with some crappy movie sequence where, if you're lucky, you mash "A" to strangle the final boss. That's vastly inferior to an actual playable confrontation.

I'm not arguing that games should be harder, I'm arguing that they should stop trying to be movies and actually be games, because most of the time, the more movie like a game gets, the worse a game it becomes.

My 360 was great while it lasted (and by great i mean it didn't RROD) but i play them all at firends houses and i honestly don't care about the console in which i play my games but if i had to chose it would be the 360, as long as it doesn't get the RRoD...
