I can see this working but I just have 1 question.

Does Sony even have the drive or the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ needed to do this.

Money yes, if you can believe it. Relative to the company as a whole it is not that expensive of a solution. Plus even though it would postpone Sony from returning to a quarterly profit, investors would see a key change in how things are going and stock would rise. Drive though, probably not.

Very good plan, I agree about money and drive, the problem would be drive. About BC, I'd also make an optional external UMD drive, to be plugged and used just to load PSP games (or UMD movies) on PSV, and after it not necessary anymore, until the user wants to load something else. Considering current optical drive prices, and making it run on mains or cheap AA NiMH batteries, such device could be profitable already at $30.

Introduce a Vita XL. 3DS was a hard sell because not everyone could perceive the graphical enhancements. XL was a brilliant move on Nintendo's behalf. 50% bigger, and literally 50% more sales.

Vita is supposed to play console quality games. That's the power that it packs. But the screen...., yes it's bigger than 3DS, but if Vita too gets a bigger screen, I think it will wow more people. It's kinda like seeing an HD television commercial on an old TV and the guy on the couch says "what's so cool about that?"

Wouldn't it be too big to fit in your pocket if they done that?. The screen would probably be at least 7 inches if they made a vita XL

Just like the 3DS, if you want small buy regular, if you want bigger, go for XL.  You can have it around the house, in a backpack or briefcase, purse, but smartphones really takes up more on the go type of gaming time.  Plus, people bring their kindles and ipad minis with them.

Forget about a BC drive for the Vita. Why contruct and sell something like this, when they can just one more time sell you these PSP games on PSN?

I think there is no need for a Vita XL. The console is big enough.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

a 50$ price cut
memory price cut
a grand turismo for vita
At least evry week a new game and one a big game every month

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Well if they done it, there would have to be a better battery life, thats for sure, as well as better analogue sticks. It would be interesting to see, but i doubt sony would make one

Haha as a Nintendo shareholder I hope they don't.  As a gaming fan, I hope they do.  Instead of making the wrong conclusion that consumers don't want console quality games on the go if one were to judge strictly based on Vita results (or even Wii U in a way), maybe it's just the formula has yet to be perfected.  I know I for one do have my wallet in the ready position.

I can imagine millions potential users wouldn't be happy at all about having to buy again the same games they already own, so that drive could be a selling feature for them. Add also those with slow internet connection or no internet connection at all, even if temporarily (for example on vacation). Add those with wireless internet with a download limit in their flat fees, that once exceeded turns into either horribly expensive pay per download or severely slowed down connection. Add those that want to own their games on physical media because they feel more free, or whatether other reason, and obviously want their media to remain playable. Without such drive all these people will have to stick with their old PSPs and this can both slow their purchase of PSVs and reduce their use of the new console once they buy it, slowing also the purchase of new PSV games. The tranquillity of having all their old games available and playable on the new console whenever they want and without limits could prevent them from feeling their old gaming world is threatened, reduce nostalgia induced by this defensive feeling and actually accelerate the new console's adoption.

Cool story bro.

Is the PS3 BC? Neither will be Vita. Sony isn't there to satisfy the needs of every single person out there. They are to make money. Such a thing would only hurt them financially by hitting the sales of PSP games in PS Store, so forget about it. I know that 3DS being compatible with DS games is a great feat, but that comes out of the box, without any additional stuff. Really, I'd rather Sony just expanded the number of PSX and PSP games available online and added the PS2 games as well, instead of investing money is something that only a handful of people would buy.
