Keiner kann ihn bremsen, keiner macht ihm was vor. Immer der richtige Schuss, immer zur richtigen Zeit. Superfussball, Fairer Fussball. Er ist unser Torschützenkönig und Held.

Posted my 5th pick The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. One of the supporting actors that appears early on in my next movie was a teammate of Jackie Robinson on the 1939 UCLA football team.

Do you mean the part at 22 minutes, sped up footage with actors walking slowly to make the vehicles appear to move faster?

3. Blade runner, 1982, Ridley Scott

My favorite sci-fi movie. So far everytime I've watched this it has impressed me a little more. Great story, great characters and a level of ambience that is unmatched. The blu-ray edition looks and sounds phenomenal, all restored with a new 4K transfer.
Apart from the philosophy behind the movie it simply sucks me in every time with all the attention to detail and the wonderful characters. A true classic.

Bicycle Thieves

Also know as The Bicycle Thief, this timeless classic takes place in post-war Rome. A destitute man searches, with his son, for his stolen bicycle, without which he cannot work and cannot support his family. Bicycle Thieves is a masterpiece of Italian neorealism. The movie is filmed on location (no studio sets were used), and the cast was made up entirely of untrained actors. The result is an honest depiction of life in Rome after the end of the second world war, the hardships endured by the working class, and the daily fight to survive.

Ah the overused repetition shot from different angles, that's where it comes from :) Mythbusters wouldn't be fun without it.

I finished watching the lotr extended edition again with the commentary track, with Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Bowens. That is one of the most entertaining commentaries I know, quite a funny trio, for 11 hours. His Arnold Swarchenegger impression is too funny, joking about having him lead the charge from Minas Tirith to the black gates. Love it how he keeps pestering his writers with loop holes, like why couldn't they use the midle earth taxi, fly in on the eagles and drop the ring, be done with it.

Anyway he describes this technique of shooting at 48fps with everyone walking and talking a bit faster then slowing it down and replacing the sound to get a more stately look. For example when Faramir leaves to liberate Osgiliath.

Beautiful sequence.

Any clue where that came from?

Yes, great ending with Rutger Hauer, one of his best.

I haven't seen most of Veknoids list either. My interests lie mostly with attention to detail, story telling through world design and sound design overall. Black and white movies don't do that for me, I still can't get through Metropolis.

Great thread to find some new movies to watch :)
I blame you for not playing any video games since Ni No Kuni, too busy watching movies.

Sounds good, I'm mostly looking forward to Gravity (from the director of Children of men), I hope that turned out well. And I'm waiting for Life of Pi on blu-ray, Willow and Who framed roger rabbit. All out March 12th :)

It is a wonderful life, with James Stewart.
