no one has guessed my next movie :(

Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo (based on a book)

Even if it where available in my region I doubt I would want to watch that movie since my older brother died of a heroine overdose in Berlin back in 1991.

Keiner kann ihn bremsen, keiner macht ihm was vor. Immer der richtige Schuss, immer zur richtigen Zeit. Superfussball, Fairer Fussball. Er ist unser Torschützenkönig und Held.

Yes, the second of 4 Terry Gilliam movies on my list, 1985's Brazil.

I first saw this movie at a 1 am screening in a small cinema in '94. I was totally blown away by it.
Set in a most depressing vision of the future, all concrete buildings, roads walled with billboards with nothing but wasteland and heavy industry beyond. One man tries to literally follow his dream which puts him at odds with the beaurocractic nightmare that he himself is part of. The futuristic vision is expertly crafted. A future with computers, yet everything is still done with paper forms with pipes and ducts for sending/receiving them. (Those were always magical to watch in department stores pre computers) I love the dark humor, fantasy, great satire, and the attention to details.
And it has one thing spot on, the ministry of information is made possible by ordinary people just doing their jobs. Well maybe another one as well, my cable company is not a lot unlike central services...

Great ending too!

My #22 is It's a Wonderful Life, a heartwarming, life-affirming gem from director Frank Capra. The movie is in constant danger of becoming overly sentimental, but Capra steers his ship in the right direction, weaving doubt, discord, and depression into the fairybook story. In the end, it's Capra who makes the picture work; his optimism, sense of humor, and faith in humanity make it a classic.

21. City of lost children, 1995, Marc Caro, Jean-Pierre Jeunet

A visually stunning movie with a great story and clever plot devices. An orphan named Miette decides to help strongman One to look for his little brother Denree. A mad scientist called Crank has young children kidnapped to capture their dreams as he has lost the ability to dream himself. He is one of 6 clones created by their 'uncle' that now lives as a brain in an aquarium tank.  That only scratches the surface of all the wonderfully weird characters inhabiting this movie.

A great fantasy movie that keeps on giving with each repeat viewing. And if you can call Die Hard a christmas movie, then city of lost children qualifies too. Best rendition of petit papa noel :)

Cracks me up every time.

My #21 is Au Hasard Balthazar, a minimalist movie by director Robert Bresson. The religious allegory in the movie is apparent, but it only serves to make the story more powerful and more moving. The entire production is austere -- there isn't much dialogue or many complicated sets -- but the film is heavy with symbolism.

Posted my 21st pick The Pianist my next movie was the #1 movie for 16 weekends domestically.
