My #21 is Au Hasard Balthazar, a minimalist movie by director Robert Bresson. The religious allegory in the movie is apparent, but it only serves to make the story more powerful and more moving. The entire production is austere -- there isn't much dialogue or many complicated sets -- but the film is heavy with symbolism.
