My #22 is It's a Wonderful Life, a heartwarming, life-affirming gem from director Frank Capra. The movie is in constant danger of becoming overly sentimental, but Capra steers his ship in the right direction, weaving doubt, discord, and depression into the fairybook story. In the end, it's Capra who makes the picture work; his optimism, sense of humor, and faith in humanity make it a classic.
