Serious thread?

USA

Black Ops 2 (360), 8 Weeks of data - 6,206,912
Halo 4, 9 Weeks of data - 4,776,509

UK

Black Ops 2 (360), 8 Weeks of data - 1,698,402
Halo 4, 9 Weeks of data - 803,432

Worldwide

Black Ops 2 (360), 7 Weeks of data - 11,212,775
Black Ops 2 (PS3), 7 Weeks of data - 9,219,827
Halo 4, 8 Weeks of data - 7,387,969

In short, Halo isnt even in the same league as Call of Duty.

This. CoD is the WoW of shooters. Halo has a pretty stable fanbase, but I doubt it will grow any bigger. There is no sign that points towards that. CoD might get smaller, but not Halo small.

This really makes it sound like Halo had a "small" fanbase :D

No, it has a huge fanbase. But compared to CoD it has a small fanbase. When you compare how much both series sold this gen, Halo is small in comparison. Compared to other games a big IP

I wouldn't nail the size of a fanbase on the absolute sales. Way more CoD games were released, OF COURSE it did sell much more. But if you take the average sales of the franchise, I'd say Halo has like 70-80% of CoD's fanbase. Thats by no means "small".

That number is probably waaay below 50%. I wouldent be surprised if its closer to 30%. CoD is a yearly itteration, and even single entries outsell Halo entries almost 3:1.

Nope. They will all face a some what normal decline.

As a Halo fan I don't see this happening. It'll be cool to see Halo return as King but it'll never happen unless COD declines by a lot which isn't happening any time soon. cod is still selling like hotcakes and you can bet that the next generation ones will too. Halo will always have a strong following and impressive sales for a game that's exclusive to one platform but not enough to dethrone cod anytime soon. Battlefield has a better chance....

HAHAHAHAHAHA

no

look at the numbers you provided. CoD is bigger than Halo in US. Fifa is bigger than Halo in UK. What makes you think Halo can surpass these franchises?

It will happen. Poeple seem to forget that the COD fanbase is mainly casuals, these guys only buy two or three games a year, the token COD game and the token sports game.

When next gen launches, casuals (COD fanbase) will not buy new consoles straight away, they cant afford it. That is where Halo will come in and reign as the king of FPS sales once again.

Why bring FIFA in the convo when it's obviously centered around the FPS genre?

Halo's only big competition in the genre is COD and Battlefield. I agree that it isn't going to happen though.

I wish it was possible, but it won't happen. COD is a bigger franchise, and Halo is only for the Xbox.

I hate to say it, but the Halo fanbase is mostly "casual" players too. Any game that sells that many copies speaks to a huge audience, made up mostly of people who are casually interested in video games.

@OP: It won't happen next-gen, and I don't think it will happen at all. Call of Duty, like most evergreen titles, relies on a formula of "lather, rinse, repeat," and thus is likely to outlast Halo, which can only move in so many directions. Does Halo deserve to be the king? Probably. Will it? I'd be surprised.

i can see his point, and i agree...somehow i mean i am pretty sure that Halo 4 will sell more than the 360 version of Black Ops 2 in 2013 but in USA only and maybe with luck even globally and that shows that cod is in yearly decline and Halo 4 is a comeback for the Halo series BUT! i wouldnt be so sure about this just because of this weeks sale data because you have consider the price drop that Halo 4 is having in US-Gamestop, its avaliable for only 40 $ while Black Ops 2 still costs 60 $ and the difference between those 2 games this week was only about 3k so dont get too excited folks! But its not impossible.

Only if somehow the next Call of Duty game tanks.
