Forums - Microsoft - Next Gen Halo will be bigger than Call of Duty

It will happen. Poeple seem to forget that the COD fanbase is mainly casuals, these guys only buy two or three games a year, the token COD game and the token sports game.

When next gen launches, casuals (COD fanbase) will not buy new consoles straight away, they cant afford it. That is where Halo will come in and reign as the king of FPS sales once again.

I agree with this.

This is said alot but I've never seen any evidence supporting it.  The people I play against (granted a very small portion of the player base) always seem to have a standard range of gamer score/trophy level

It's possible depending on the Halo 5 launch.

As foodfather has said the COD base is quite casual. If the 720/PS4 is too expensive then the new COD won't be bought as much as Halo 4. What Activision can do is release two versions of the game (one for the 360, and one for the 720) which could still result in a lot of sales for the next COD.

It's just that simple.
