We count this gens lifetime sales, including 360s head start sales. One can say thats the very reason why the 360 did so good this gen. Makes perfect sense.

LOL. No you're wrong the Xbox360 & ps1 launches outsold the ps3 by a F***ing MILE.

The article which said that suggested that the PS3 had shipped 77mil, and that was a couple weeks ago. It's currently sat at 72mil and will more than likely go down again. So for clarity, let's say that article was conceived when the PS3 was at 70mil units sold. Where are the other 7 million? Are you suggesting there's an entire year's supply of PS3's just in the ocean? The sheer logistics of that would be enough to plummet most companies into a heavy loss, so it's highly unlikely they'll be more than, say, 800k in the channels (at most). 

VGC has the PS3 at 1.6mil behind the 360, so no way is it outshipped. Yet.

Not true. You only need to look at sales figures to see this:

2005 (all markets):

2006 (Excluding Europe for PS3):

Looks like the PS3 was far more successful than the 360 to me. The figure for the PS1 is somewhat harder to find (naturally), but http://scei.co.jp/corporate/data/bizdataps_e.html">this would suggest it was also in the region of 1-1.2mil. Again, the PS3 would have outsold it.

Finally, let's look at this here, which would suggest the GameCube sold around 3mil in its first year, again excluding Europe. So it's quite clear that the PS3 launch WAS a good one, and that the GameCube teaches us the first year of sales mean absolutely nothing in the long run.

Correct; my above post goes into the exact detailing here though your thread does a pretty good job (threw in a few old gen ones as well, I believe if you extrapolate the PS2's launch as well it would give you 1.28mil pver the same timeframe so it's hardly any better).

i thought they had a PS3 for $179. yea i hope PS3 gets a price drop. i think the move(again you could be right) was to make profit before droping price.

i think all those exclusives will perform well. from 500k, and up. but ye, to keep momentum, a price drop would definitely do that.

Ok so  everyhting was doomed in the last generation until PS2 died out in the major markets?

As same applies to XB360 vs PS2 - what I am saying is that this is all relative and all is a circle.every new generation has the same problem over and over again!

If every new console should sell out like Wii did  Vita should have been already replaced.

It takes time to build up a game library, to build up a name and to stabilize sales.

Why should people really spend so much money to be able to play a couple of games on Wii U when the rest has so much more to offer in terms of library?

Tech is not that important if not fully used and you cannot play it a lot.

Wii U needs more games like every console did at the beginning of their cycle.

It doesn't, first week sales for the PS3 when you include Europe (which launcched in Spring) are far better than the 360, perhaps even Wii. 

Some people just believe what they want to believe and ignore facts provided to them. His choice, but now I don't feel as though any amount of figures or facts will get through to him, so I don't see the point of continuing to try...
