I'm so glad I got a 3DS.

This looks soooooo good. So happy they look to have changed the look. It looks incredible.

On a related note, we don't technically have confirmation that the starters are Fire/Water/Grass. We're basing it on assumptions because we see them using those type attacks and they're coloured to suit (and because the "Water" type is a frog), but strictly speaking, it hasn't yet been confirmed. Actually, they're not even confirmed to be the starters - it's all assumption at this point.

If they are, indeed, the starters, and the standard type set, then there's still some interesting observations.

This is the first grass starter that isn't a reptile or amphibian, and the first grass starter that doesn't appear to be made of grass (it's the first one that isn't predominantly green, in fact). The fire starter is the first one to not really have any significant amount of red, unless you count Cyndaquil without its fire quills. The water starter is the first one that is based on an animal that isn't completely associated with water (many frogs live on land, and only reproduce in water).

They do seem to be making an effort to mix things up, at least a LITTLE bit.

I'm pretty sure it's an intentional reference to the fact that there are so many different breeds of dog, just as there are so many different variations of eeveelution. If any of the eeveelutions bear any resemblance to a fox, it's Espeon, which does kind of have a resemblance to a Fennec Fox, itself (enough so that it was mentioned on the Bulbapedia page for Espeon before Pokemon X and Y were announced).

To be honest, I'm surprised you haven't mentioned Entei. Not because it's a dog (it's not - it's a Lion), but because many think of them as the "legendary dogs" (they're not - they're a Lion, a Tiger, and a Panther).

There we go, now I have a reason to play my 3DS.

I got my eyes on both the grass and water starter! My only starters i ever like is Blastoise (FAV), Ivysaur, and Bayleef! Now after 10 years i might get some new ones finally!

One thing I'll say is that, this time around, I came to like the starter designs pretty damn quickly.

The Gen 4 starters I was a bit uncomfortable with for a few weeks, and the Gen 5 starters, I'm still a little dissatisfied with. But these are all fairly nice designs... the weakest is definitely Froakie, for me, but the other two are really quite nice designs, up there, for me, with Charmander, Torchic, Chikorita, and Totodile.

Which kind of means that Fennekin is the odd one out, at this point, with all the other ones I really like being "Ch" or "To" at the start of their names. :P
