Forums - Nintendo - Analyst WiiU GameStop sales below expectations

It took me 3 weeks to sell my wii u delux. Had to drop the price from 400 with Mario u and Nintendo land to 375 and add zombi u. Pretty much got bent over on that's one. It isn't in high demand like the wii, but it isn't horrible either. The next few weeks will be telling tho.

1) We are going with your definitions, first you defined a group called "graphic whores" and then you made up a group who bought wii for wiimote. Those are 2 different things.

2) I have never argued that nor even commented on that. You on the other hand made a comment about people who whined about lack of good games and haven't answered that. I even helped you with your own definitions and still no answer. Then you ask a question which makes no sense whatsoever on the context our exchange and expect me to answer it?

The crickets are getting tired, maybe I should call the tumbleweed? The games, please?

1) Going back to my first post:

Personally, I would argue that Nintendo isn't having problems with the so-called "casual" gamers because I see evidence that social gamers, lapsed gamers, "girl gamers", and whatnot are buying the system in decent numbers. Where I see the sales falling short is the elitest graphic-whore gamer who previously bought the Wii to try it out, and then spent 5 years complaining that it was collecting dust while refusing to buy good games on the system.

If you notice, I'm talking about a group of gamers who bought into the Wii due to the Wiimote (because it was cool technology at the time) and were unhappy with the graphical technology and capabilities. How is this different then technology obsessed people who bought the Wii to try the Wiimote because it was cool technology at the time and were unhappy with the graphical technology and capabilities?

No, I do not notice that. Care to bold the part where in that post you mention wiimote or cool technology? All I can see is that "graphic whore" bs.  But okay, let's pretend that you said that, just because I am dying to find out which games appeal to that crowd.

To the people who happen to be graphic whores and at the same time, naturally bought wii for the wiimote.

Any game from 06 to 13 will do. I set the standards on an earlier post. Go!

At launch the Wii had The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess which was both a gameplay masterpiece and a beautful game based on the standards of people who came from the PS2, XBox, or Gamecube.

So how did the title use motion controls? Be honest, I own the game and can easily check the facts out.

Graphically that game was not appealing to graphic whores, since gears set the par way higher on consoles. And that is not even considering pc.

My guess is that both requirements were not met, so is there another try?

So, of the 170+ million people who owned a previous generation console every gamer who is heavily motivated by technically advanced graphics owned a high end PC or XBox 360 in 2006? I don't think so ...

From what I remember, a lot of PS2 gamers bought a Wii when they found out the PS3 was $600 even though they were highly interested in advanced graphics. I suspect they believed that, since the Wii was more powerful than the Gamecube and the Gamecube was more powerful than the PS2, there would be a nice graphical jump from 1st generation Wii games to games down the road; and when these games didn't arrive and the PS3/XBox 360 dropped in price, they left the Wii for other systems.

Games like The Legend of Zelda: Twiligh Princess, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, and Resident Evil 4 showed the promise of the Wiimote and Nunchuck but few developers followed the lead set by these games; and for gamers looking for visually impressive games, the average third party PoS that looked worse than Dreamcast games was not cutting it.

Some comments in this thread are just baffling.

Nevertheless, here is my insight:

Wii U had a 'good' launch. The system was able to sell decent numbers; doing so, without much active promotion. The 'next-generation' is going to be a hard to sell, the Vita was an early indication. Consumers are much more demanding these days as they want to know what they are getting for their money now, not down the line.

Wii U will sell well when the 'AA' titles from Nintendo are released and marketing is a much more dominant factor. Nintendo has two aces in their hands: Lego City Undercover and Wii Fit U for Q4, if they play their cards right.

The next Xbox will dominate North America; however, not in its first year as the Xbox 360 will still outsell it due to it being the better value.

Sony is in a much more difficult situation. Their handheld market is almost nonexistent, doing so after 1 year. Sony NEEDS the PS4 to be a success as much of their financials depend on it. Like the Xbox, expect the PS3 to outsell the PS4 in its first year.

If they were what you originally said, graphic whores, obviously they were playing on devices which offered good graphics. I really don't give crap about that, I just wanted to know if there was a wii game which could be considered a good game for a graphics whore. You have showed no games which are even close to level of graphical fidelity which 2006 game gears of war showed.

How does tp/smg use motion controls? I know that RE4 has a lightgun or something like that.

Wii U had a bit better launch than GC and worse launch than N64/Wii.

How did N64/GC do with those "AA" titles back then? Bazillions, I would assume as most nintendo fans on this site seem to love N64.

No I said "of the 170+ million people who owned a previous generation console every gamer who is heavily motivated by technically advanced graphics owned a high end PC or XBox 360 in 2006?" ...

If 33% of those gamers could be considered to be heavily motivated by graphics technology there would be 56 million of them (based on previous generation console sales), yet there were only 8 million XBox 360s sold when the Wii launched. Now, 33% of gamers may not be that highly motivated by graphics technology, but I think that 33% is a closer estimate than the 4.7% that owned an XBox 360 when the Wii launched.

Edit: You keep asking how games used motion controls, yet you seem to have a Wii and some of the games mentioned (The Legend of Zelda) ... Aren't you an example of the gamer I am talking about?

This is getting tiresome, so far you have showed no game which would appease a graphic whore and a person who was interested in wiimote. Therefore, it is safe to assume that the complaints of said crowd were justified. No good games for them on wii.

kthxbye
