Sony - 45%
Microsoft - 20%
Nintendo - 35%

the Sony/Microsoft market share all depends on when they release next gen consoles. If the 720 and PS4 release at the same time then I think Sony could easily beat them.

...And we have a winner!

Explain.

The only reason Microsoft has the edge on Sony now is because they released a year early. Also the PS3 has been selling more than the 360 ever since they were both launched so it seems logical to me that if they launched at the same time then Sony would win. Not to mention the complete failure Microsoft had with the launch of the 360 with RROD which was due to the pressure of wanting to release before Sony. Sony is in a posiition to have bigger launch title games (first party) since Microsoft just released their biggest gaming franchise recently (Halo) and I highly doubt that another game will be ready for next gen. Also Gears of war, their second biggest franchise, is having a new game released in 2013 and if the next gen consoles are released in 2013, I just don't see there being 2 Gears games in the same year. Sony on the other hand is in the perfect position seeing as most of their big franchises have already been released for some time. Killzone, Uncharted, Gran Turismo, New SSM project etc. Then we have Nintendo who I highly doubt will repeat the success of the Wii, but this does not mean that the Wii U will not be successful.

I'm not going to take you seriously until you explain how the 720 will only have 20% marketshare...

No good launch titles

PS Plus will outshine paying for Live

People will be afraid to buy an Xbox at launch because of the utter failure of the 360's launch

I don't think anybody but forum-dwelling internet people remember that, and most of those people will be smart enough to realise Microsoft won't let it happen again and their hardware since then has been much better.

Maybe people will know maybe they won't. I'm can't predict the future and neither can anyone else, he asked me why I think people won't buy the 720 and I gave him reasons. I don't see the point of attacking me for stating my opinion seeing as I never attacked him for stating his own opinion.

@Apm, what do you mean 'what ecosystem'?

Windows 8 has Xbox live pre-loaded in it and it'll sell hundreds of millions of units per year for the next 3+ years (until windows 9 is launched... with Xbox live)

Windows phones come pre-loaded with Xbox live and about a hundred million of them will be sold per year (and that number will continually increase as Windows phones increase in popularity)

Europe will likely remain a sony stronghold as long as they have Gran Turismo.

I think Europes love for Gran Turismo is over exaggerated. Do people really have loyalty when it comes to racing games? I don't think so.

I would look at it this way.  Gran Turismo 5 has sold more in Europe alone then all the Forza's combined... despite the console game only being 5 million.

Halo is essentially America's Gran Turismo.

This generation will likely end up with each console holding a major market with first place won on the margins... and Microsoft will be shut out of one of those markets.  The smallest market... however that's going to really hurt vs Sony unless Nintendo dominates... and if Nintendo dominates, then that's bad for Microsoft as well, since it likely means Nintendo is doing well everywhere else.

MS  REALLY needs to kicks ass in the US, essentially.

There will be multiplats (Cod, GTA V, ass creed) and probably Forza and Halo....sounds pretty good if you ask me. Popular franchises which people actually care about

Dunno about this one...

Wishful thinking.

Do you honestly think another Halo will come out a year after Halo 4 has been out? I'm pretty sure it would take them longer to make a quality game. By "good" franchises I mean popular franchises in terms of fan base. Because surely there will be high rated exclusive games coming out for the Xbox but people aren't willing to buy new IP's when they know the next Halo or Gears is going to be out soon. As for the multiplats, they will be available on the PS4 too so I don't see that as a reason to purchase the 720 over the PS4.
