Not quite. I think the name Wii U has left a lot of non-gamers in the dark about just what it is exactly. I know anecdotal evidence isn't great, but I have ran across a few people who thought it was merely some new pad for the Wii rather then a whole new system.
Not meaning to be a bitch, but you should have at least read the article; they linked to the wii console on the nintendo site...

Yes it will hurt them as there will be no software sales for these systems - however, insurance will cover for the stolen wii u's. All is good. |
Why would no software be sold for these consoles? Are they just going to sit around and look pretty on someone's shelf?
Well, now that I think about it, if they get caught I guess they are just going to sit in an evidence locker.

The journalism is crappy, but what really gets me is that lack of security for the location in question. This place stores millions of dollars of merchandise and in a time span of two hours and 30 minutes, there wasn't a security guard that noticed these people were where they shouldn't have been?
No information on the thieves and no idea how many were in the warehouse. So no security equipment, no cameras in the warehouse, and presumably outside of the warehouse, etc? Most convenient stores have more security than this.

I think they're definitely trying to replicate the success of the Wii to a large extent, and calling it the Wii 2 would of been the easiest way to do that. Nobody would ask if it were some kind of addon/peripheral etc. They'd instantly know it's Nintendo's next console.
This isn't funny guys!
Weapons are easy to come by, but now god knows who is in possession of these supply restricted consoles and they will enable them to play violent games!
i predict either theft or sales of Mass Effect 3 and subsequently the number of shootings will sore soon enough.
“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I would assume it would be rather difficult to get rid of them all, I'm sure they could sell quite a few on Ebay under various accounts but moving 7000 of them is going to be tricky.
When the PS2 launched an entire truckload was stolen in my City ...
From my understanding it took the police only a few hours to track down the shipment because the people who bought systems from them couldn't stop bragging about how they got a PS2 (when they were still sold out everywhere).
