well yes you would be worried,i remember the PSP had a must have buzz early on,if the vita does half the PSP it will have done well but thats not good enough for all concerned

i keep getting told the end is nigh for dedicated handheld so i'm assuming this is sony last handheld machine, they'll probably merge with a phone in the future if they stay with it and you are connected to PSN

unless a sony handheld is going to be dirt cheap what is the future against the pad/smart market

yea, Sony actually might have dropped the ball a bit by not making the Vita a full blown phone with android support, but I guess it could've scared off publishers as they'd have to compete against the $1 or so android market games (which sony doesn't profit from either) and made the system way more vulnerable to hacks and such

i think there will always be a dedicated fanbase for handhelds but where/how it works for sony i'm not sure, hopefully the vita can be helped with connectivity to the PS3/PS4 but i read that it is difficult for the PS3 and basically not worth it

i don't use handhelds or game on smartphones so i don't know where the balance is on what people would want at some point they might just sell their games through the psn to all the mobile devices but they'll probably go for a phone hybrid first

If sony fans dont see it as a worry.. then there is nothing to worry about!..

just forget about the 3DS was doomed to hell.. at the same point in its life time yet was selling more than the vita... in other words only Nintendo systems can ever have that claim.. but not the vita.. we've been told this numerous times by sony fans!.

Dont know why nintendo fans keep making the same dumb comparsion.  What handheld (outside the early psp) sold more than a nintendo handheld at any given point?  Lifetime sales of DS is 150m+,  lifetime sales of PSP 75m+ so you are talking 2 to 1 and thats from the best non nintendo handheld.  So why do you think, even at the same price point, a sony handheld would have sold more.  At best it can be competetive, which the vita will be once it receives a decent price and game support.

But hey, dont let your Sony hate keep you from thinking rationally!

lol oh now vita is being victimized..   and no longer should be pitted against the 3DS.. sony fans are the funniest!

"So why do you think, even at the same price point, a sony handheld would have sold more"<-- LOL.. whut?.. I have never thought this.. Ive always thought its DOA!.. while sony fans kept saying wait till COD.. wait till AC.. wait till E3.. wait till next holiday.. wait till this.. and that.. lol! .. you probably voted "slow start" didnt you?.. lol

I'm happy that you are happy, friend  (atleast you are "lol"ing a lot). And I am happy with my PS Vita :).

Personally I've owned even less successful systems in the past, hehe, and I still got my share of entertainment from them, so I'm not too worried especially as in my opinion there already is enough quality software out for the device.

Still I doubt it will ever sell up to 3DS levels and hence be an easy target for malicious glee, yet that never bothered me before and won't start now. Have a good day.

If Sony fans are not worried, why we non-Sony fans should?

Glad your happy too!... my post is a punch to those sony fans who thought other wise and was dooming the 3DS since its release.

PSVita is a bizarre case. Its sales are at red alert levels in Japan but it still gets quite some major games there : One Piece Pirate Warriors 2, Legend of Heroes, God Eater 2, Senran Kagura, Jump VS, Tales of Hearts, etc. which makes my Vita schedule way busier than my 3DS schedule.

This is a combination of 2 things.   When Vita and 3DS were first announced, developers and publishers had to start planning out how they were going to support those platforms for the next several years.  Gams go into early development long before we ever hear about them.   This means that any current sales activity isn't relevant to what was planned 2 years ago.

The other factor is the 3DS jumped out fo the gate fast but fell just as quickly which gave developers and publishers a little scare so they may have pulled back support a littel bit.  But as it has picked back up and the Vita is now having the sales difficulty, we are not yet seeing the impact yet.  What we see now is the specualtion of Vita with the porr early sales of the 3DS.   Hence Vita is getting some solid software announcements.

But if the same factor plays out again, it will reverse this time next year.  That's one of the downfalls of console line up debates.   It's like looking at the stars at night.   None of are actually in that position anymore so we're debating actions of the past.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

I'd be extremely worried if I was Sony, ATM if you was a third party developer which system would you choose to invest in the 3DS with 21 million install base with sales really starting to pick up or the Vita which is struggling to even hit 4m?

The Vita is in trouble. This isn't because it doesn't have good games, it's because it doesn't have any good mainstream games. The biggest mainstream games to hit the Vita are Declassified and AC Liberation. AC Liberation met meh reviews and Declassified even worse. Furthermore, these are both titles that consumers are not accustomed to having on a portable device. To fix sales, Sony needs a big handheld game. For Nintendo it's simply a matter of pushing out another Mario, Zelda, or Pokemon. Sony is much more reliant on third party titles like GTA or Monster Hunter (which has already jumped ship) to drive sale. For the Vita to succeed, Sony must:
1. Release a new God of War and Gran Turismo
2. Drop the price (sell at a loss if necessary)
3. Actively work out third party support with third-parties, namely Rockstar, Square Enix and Capcom.

If the Vita can get GTA to drive sales in the West and Monster Hunter to drive sales in the East, sales will sore, as will third-party support.
