Forums - Gaming Discussion - What could Microsoft do to beat Sony in Japan next gen?

Why do people believe that MS could actually buy Sony? Sony made just over $79 Billion in revenue in 2012, and MS made just over $73 Billion in revenue in 2012.

Share price =/= revenue =/= profits

My guess.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Much like how Sony has first-party developers that create games that appeal to western audiences, I think that Microsoft needs to employ some of its first-party developers to research and develop games with Japanese audiences in mind, instead of only relying on third-party Japanese support. Obviously this is easier said than done, since there is more money in the western markets, but if they really want to be more successful in Japan, I think that Microsoft needs to work on developing more games that appeal to Japanese audiences.

There are only 3 possible things MS could do to beat Sony in Japan.

1. Buy Nintendo
2. Bomb Sony and destroy the entire company
3. Pay Japanese to have Xbox's

Realistically?

Nothing.

You're right that they don't precisely equal one another, however there is a major correlation between them. They don't equal one another simply because they have different definitions. They don't equal one another, but they do effect one another.

Sadly, there is nothing they could do, nothing.

What if they buy Sony and cancel the PS4?

If MS wants to go bankrupt they could buy out Sony just to cancel PS4.

Buying Sony wouldn't make MS go bankrupt. They've got $70bn in cash and make $5bn in profit every quarter...

Anyway, your original statement it wrong because if MS did this they they would beat Sony in Japan.

Sony and its assets are worth more than 70bn

Source?

Microsoft could buy a majority shareholding in Sony for $6bn

More than $160bn

If MS wanna go bankrupt, they should buy out Sony

I don't even know if they would win giving away their next console

Never gonna happen.

Despite all the effort this time around, they still got crushed. Japanese devs wont fall for the same trick twice. No more exclusive Tales, Star Ocean, etc.

The first comment rule all the thread.

It's easy "BUY NINTENDO".

....I think you missed the $136,000,000 Billion in liabilities ;)

By your logic Turkish, I could take out a loan from the bank for $1 million and call myself a "millionairre", or maybe I could get into the buy-to-let business and get 100% mortgages on 10 houses and call myself a "property tycoon".
