If you were on VG Chartz long enough you'd find out every three months we get quarterly numbers from all big gaming companies and that's basically where the info comes from, the actual company themselves. So were not picking this shit out of our ass it's official numbers.

Check Postofficebuddies link aswell, those are some shipped numbers from March of 2012 showing how much the PS2 actually ships every quarter, you'd be surprise of the demand of that console in the poor countries.

Thanks postofficebuddy :). Well the ps2 is still ahead clearly however, the ds is catching up because the ds sales are out pacing the ps2 according to these numbers.

I marked the sentence for you! I´ve been told that the reason why they combined PS2 and PS3 Shippments was due the Fact they inofficially discontinued PS2 in early January 2012! They just reshipped Units they got back from retailers! This also explains why some PS2 Packages are a bit in a bad shape! This is what i´ve been told! At all my respect but i do not know where you are living! Yes the PS2 is undertracked at vg.chartz. But only some 100ks. The Nintendo DS WILL surpass PS2 without a question! If the PS2 has more than 154,4 Million SHIPPED please show me any sources to confirm! If it really had 158 millions or what Fanatics are predicting, the PS2 would have to be nearly flat from 2011 (4.1 Million) You can look it up! You really think the PS2 in 2012 is down JUST 500 k with just FIFA and PES?? No Way!! They have ABSOLUTLEY NO Reason to hide PS2 numbers because it was a very succesfull console and the PS3 is the best selling console so far in 2012!! (expect 3DS)! This is NO RUMOR!!

If the DS is selling really badly they will ship just a lousy Million in Q4 2012 wich will put it at 153,5 Million LT as of december 31 2012. The overall Gap would be 900K!!! And i am going pessimistic now! Every console and handheld shipps more in Q4 than in Q3. (Even PSP!) (They will ship 1 million alone in 2013- again i am pessimistic!!) This will put it at 154,5 Million! To be pessimistic the DS will outshipp PS2 as of the end of 2013 by 100k! To really think Nintendo will NOT SHIP 1 more million till all is said and done is just foolish with no basis and has to be wishfull thinking on part of some Sony Fanboys who can´t get over the Fact that the DS will be the most sold gaming system! I am NO FANBOY! I have over 100 games on each system!!

About discontinuing the Nintendo DS! You saw Black Friday numbers? In Austria the DSIXL is AT LEAST 179€! They did not cut the price TILL TODAY!! There are 2 models currently still in production! If they really wanted to discontinue it, they would first discontinue DSi! They will NOT do it before March 13. This alone will cause a price cut! And DS should be at 154 Million BY THEN! They will NOT discontinue DSIXL before cristmas in 2014! They never discontinued 2 Models simultaneously! In other words: If these PS2 numbers are true- and they are, the DS CAN JUST SURPASS PS2!! They would have to drop a nuke on the production halls to prevent this! Again i am NO FANBOY just realistic! I also belive that the PSP has a got shoot of surpassing GBA when all is said and done!!

Yes people are buying PS2´s, of course! But these is just the final stock! Not every of these 154 million units is sold to date! Sony just announces shipped units! Do you think i invented these numbers?

I know this is off Topic but vgchartz. com has PS1 heavely overtracked! The true number is 102,5 Million!

Would it be a problem if you ajust it down again? I know this must hurt when Wii surpasses it, but lets stay fair, ok?? I also think the PSP is a bit off here! Doesnt it have about 76- 77 Million?

Nice, well played Nintendo! While I never quite got into the DS like I did the Wii and 360, it was home to one of my favorite games of this gen, Mario Kart DS. It also was responsible for bringing back the classic 2D Mario series and had a ridiculous selection of RPGs.

So I guess going by the trends of the top 3 selling consoles, the winning formula is: Have a shitload of games, and have many of those games be JRPGs.
