Is that so? You sound like a true nintendo fan.

I am a Nintendo fan, and I'm a video game fan.

If if you don't enjoy the classics of a medium then I don't know what to tell you. It's important to understand where video games come from, and to understand that there are some universal qualities that bestow a game with greatness.

The same is true for all media. A true understanding and appreciation of modern music would start with Elvis, the Everly Brothers, Muddy Waters, Buddy Holly, etc. A true understanding and appreciation of modern movies would begin with The Birth of a Nation, Metropolis, It Happened One Night, Citizen Kane, etc. A true understanding and appreciation of literature would begin with Goethe, Shakespeare, Milton, Twain, Bronte, Hawthorne, etc.

I'm sorry, but if you cannot appreciate and enjoy the many different games, genres, and experiences I listed, then you are missing out on a whole lot.

I invite you to disagree with me with some facts, figures, and theories of your own. Or you could just dismiss my points and evaluations because I am a "Nintendo fan."

Oh but I do enjoy classic games. Just not those nintendo games, I guess it could be expanded to include 95% of japanese games.

What are you saying? Movies/music aren't for you, if you don't like those movies/music you listed? Wow man, you are really something else. Thank you for your concern, but I am very happy enjoying the games I like.

You give your opinion and invite me to disagree with facts and figures. I give you 2 facts.

N64 sold like 70m less than PS1.

Gamecube sold like 130m less than PS2.

If those nintendo games are such great classics that video games aren't for you if you don't like them, then how on earth those awesome nintendo consoles sold so few units? Everyone who plays games should love them, right? Everyone would be buying nintendo consoles if that were the case, which is obviously is not. Ohh, what is that?

Now that I think about it, it actually makes perfect sense. If someone does not like microsoft franchises, maybe video games are not the right medium for him.

I have to say Xbox. I enjoyed far more titles on it than on the N64.

N64:

Pro:
Made 4-player splitscreen awesome in a big way.
Introduced rumble
A handful of GREAT exclusive titles

Con:
EXPENSIVE games
Lackluster catalog of games beyond the core titles
Blurry graphics
Odd controller

Xbox

Pro:
Xbox Live
LAN multiplayer
Great graphics
A handful of great exclusives
Almost always the best version of multiplatform games
Custom music

Con:
Not as supported as the PS2
Not all exclusives worth their salt (Kakuto Chojin, etc.)

I loved my N64 and some of its games, but at the time, it was not a great system to own as the good games were few and far between. I remember struggling to find games to buy for it. While there were quite a few 5-star games, they didn't have the vast number second-tier, four-star games that the PS1 or the Xbox had.

Xbox is the winner in my book.

LOL @ the idea that someone needs to stop playing games if they don't enjoy Nintendo franchises. Nintendo lost me at the transition to 3D. Doesn't make me any less of a gamer. And now it's been almost 2 decades since and they're yet to bring me back. The closest has been NSMB, which is basically old school Mario goodness in multiplayer form.  Don't care for most of those franchises you listed either.

That's all good.

However, when multiple of the N64's games have consistently been named as greatest games ever made, it can't be ignored. It is possible you don't like Nintendo games, but when looking at it objectively, XBox has nothing on the milestones created on N64.

That said, if you enjoyed XBox more, you should vote that sure. That was what the thread was about so I agree on that.

EDIT: This comment was more directed to the subject rather than you personally.

This isn't a discussion to be looked at objectively though. The topic is which console did you enjoy more. Not which console did reviewers enjoy more. No one is ignoring anything, what you're bringing into the equation is simply irrelevant.

Anyone here Ever have 1-2hr long ladder matches on WWF No mercy on the N64 with your buddies?

Yes, and the slowdown that happens when there is 4 players in a match lol Rock Bottoms on the backstage pool table to cause the final replay?

How anybody can say N64 wasn't the jam is beyond me...

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

LMAO!! yeah!! oh, man I used to play with my Nephews and school friends, We'd Have a Weekly Heavy Weight Title match, If you win you kept the Belt for 1 week. Ahhhh, this brings back so many memories lol. I hogged the belt alot with Kane!

I judge consoles based on the quality of their exclusives because without exclusives, nothing really makes a console special/unique compared to a budget PC. Let's face it, if you can't make the argument that a console offers unique exclusives, then it's almost like a cheap PC with crappy graphics - which is what Xbox was for the most part. Since I have owned a gaming PC, I played all those cross-platform Xbox/PC games on the PC in the first place due to better controls and graphics. Since Xbox 1 barely had more than 5-6 great exclusives over 4 years (!), Xbox 1 is not a console I ever cared for.

Looking at key exclusives, some of Nintendo's titles are among the most innovative, highly rated or have been recognized for changing the gaming industry back then.

Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask, Rogue Squadron, Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark, Mario Kart 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Super Smash Bros, Donkey Kong 64, etc. All of these are console exclusives.

vs.

The same cannot be said for Xbox 1 which list of Top 25 games is essentially made up of mostly ports of PC games, and therefore by definition were best played on the PC since they were made for the PC from the ground-up (Chronicles of Riddick, KOTOR, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Beyond Good and Evil, Elder Scrolls 3, Prince of Persia, GTA San Andreas, Rainbow 6). Xbox 1's key exclusives were Fable, Forza Motorsport, Halo 1 & 2 and Ninja Gaiden.  Actually, 3 out of the top 5 Xbox 1 games can be purchased on the PC and quite a few of top 25 Xbox games are sports games. That shows you that there really was a lack of unique key exclusives for the Xbox 1. Because of that, it will have little importance in the pantheon of console gaming history since you could have played those games elsewhere, with better graphics and controls.

Rephrasing the question: Would the gaming world suffer more if Xbox never existed or if N64 never existed? Given that the majority of Xbox 1's best games would still be available on the PC, and in far superior form too given they originated there, losing N64 would be a lot more hurtful to gaming history, especially since LoZ: Ocarina of Time may be in the top 5 of best games ever made. This game has a MetaCritic professional score of 99 out of 100:

Also, the original Xbox controller is one of the least comfortable gigantic tortoises in console gaming history (Xbox 360's is one of my favourite though).

Judging the quality of a console based on quality and number of such exclusives and its contribution to the gaming industry, N64 wins for me by a landslide.
