Anyone know the reason behind the massive number of people online? Was there a new game out or something (Planetside 2?)

Sales.

Bought Torchlight 2 4 pack (before it hit $9.99 FFFFFFFFFF-----*RAGE GUY*)

Witcher 1 DC for $2.50

Theres lots and lots of sales. I think they are doing a new sale every 6 hours till tomorrow.

It's just that simple.

Yep I was one of them, just bought Civ 3 for 2.50$.

I really want to play planetside 2. But apparently its become a pay to win game.

Yay!!!

I keep seeing all these amazing figures for PC gaming but I have one question... Where are the PC gamers?! I've never met one in real life. Do they even exist? Or are they all part of an elaborate ruse by Valve to cheat investors? Food for thought.

You're still blinded by your 7 years old technology, that's why you can't see other gamers...

Wow dude, he was joking

woot, I overreacted... My bad.

Anyway, just gone in a games-buying frenzy this last days. Should have played my backlog from LAST steam sales though ^^

EDIT: Damn I quoted the wrong post!

PlanetSide 2 is an interesting game. It feels like pay-to-win because it takes so goddamn long to accrue any significant in-game currency. You only have ONE loadout for every class and it takes tens of hours of grinding to even begin thinking of getting new weapons or customizing any of the numerous classes. Or, you can put down a lot of money and start blowing away all of the other players.

Aside from that, the game is pretty fun.

The next advancement for Steam is its Big Picture mode. Currently in beta, the service allows users to browse, purchase, and play all Steam games through TV sets they already own.

I don't get this? You need to have your PC hooked up to the tv to play in big picture mode? I can already do this? Steam for linux excites me a lot more. I wonder how many other developers will follow.

I just looked at the steam sales. Really wanna buy half of them at the prices they are now. But I haven't even ordered any parts yet to build a gaming pc.

Planetside 2 isn't that big of a game, it has something to due with the huge library of steam and the great deals they give.  The steam august sale was going on and the number 1 selling game was Dishonered being offered for $29.99.  The christmas sale will be here next month and it'll be a bigger sale.

August sale in November? :O

I think that is waht it was called lol  I could be wrong, it may have said thanksgiving sale or something lol

It's likely for when the "steam box" comes. Big Picture mode makes navigating Steam incredibly easy, and efficient. For a typical gamer, regular steam isn't difficult what so ever -- to a casual though... the interface is challenging.
