I played mostly 3rd party games on my ps3 this gen...I own a ps3 and 360 and most of the time I find myself wondering what the point is if I don't go for the exclusives anyway...so next gen ill probably base my purchase on woteva console is cheapest (unless there really is a noticeable difference, which I seriously doubt...3rd party games will be similar on each console regardless)

if the current rumors are anything to go by next gen both Microsoft and Sony will be using more efficient CPU/GPU combinations that generate far less heat than the current gen consoles generate, internal components overheating was the major cause of faults early on in both the 360 and ps3, with any luck both Microsoft and Sony will have learnt not to go ott with how much they put into their next gen consoles and have far better heat dissipation. if the next playstation is less powerful than the next xbox i dont think it will be a deciding factor in what console poeple decide to buy, it'll be all down to features and cost.

cheap and badly made consoles tend to break however if you check the fail rate of this gen you can see the cheap but well made Wii has the least percentage fail rate. that can't be said about the two expencive HD consoles. mostly 360 though :P

yes it is fact that nintendo hardware has the least percentage fail rate no  just in this generation but since the NES.

my NES still works after 20 years! better to buy cheap top quality hardware than expensive hardware that fails on you twice or more ;)

I would still pick up the Playstation because I like the controller more. However, if they decide to completely change the controller, that would affect my decision on purchase more than the graphical differences.

I think they would be pleased because they'll actually be able to afford it, and Sony won't go bankrupt by losing billions on another console again.

It will be OK as long as it is considerably more powerful than PS3 (which by the way doesn't mean that it will cost a lot to produce, they just have to make the right choices). It is true that PS2 was "a weak console" but it was still much more powerful than PS1. If PS4 is a little more powerfull than PS3 (e.g. as powerfull as the WiiU) people will stick to PS3. It won't even make sense for sony to create such a device, just skip a generation, PS3 can compete with WiiU anyway.
