Forums - Nintendo - Wii U 'Has A Horrible, Slow CPU' Says Metro Last Light Dev

So much for a next Gen console...

PC-centric developers really have no say here. These people are going to be CPU-reliant.

They don't know that physics is mostly off-loaded to the GPU in the new setup, for one. They just don't know.

Other way round actually PS360 games ported to PC are almost always CPU bound. Anyone used to working on the PS3 especially would be used to offloading a lot of work onto the CPU.

PC first

Console first

There are of course exeptions like The Witcher 2

and genres like sims, strategy, RTS etc. But for FPS and action games a PC first title will usually be GPU bound where as console first games are often CPU bound in terms of performance.

I agree with Corey. 4A Games is too small of a studio. They even said that just developing for PS3 was "enough effort as it is". The Wii U supposedly has an Out of Order CPU architecture compared to In-Order of PS3/360 and that would mean a significant effort to recode Metro Last Light specifically for the Wii U. As I said, even with 70 Million Xbox 360 owners, Metro 2033 didn't even sell more than 450,000 copies in 2 years.....ouch!! It's doubtful such a small developer could justify porting Metro Last Light and optimizing for it in such a short time frame before launch early next year.

As a side-note, there is a real explanation why some Wii U games look decent and run better than their PS3/360 versions while others like Mass Effect 3 and Batman AC exhibit frame rate issues and lag.

Here is list of games that are developed by their original developer team for the Wii U port and a list of games that outsourced their Wii U development.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=44453120&postcount=3853

The games that have been outsourced to a 3rd party and not ported by the main developer to the Wii U (Batman AC, Mass Effect 3, etc.) are all the ones that look worse, exhibiting frame rate issues on the Wii U. Why am I not surprised?

Bethesda has had major issues with porting Skyrim to PS3. This isn't new. When the developer puts little time to optimize for the hardware, doesn't have enough resources to do it properly or simply does a shoddy port (GTA IV or Dark Souls to the PC), the end result is poor performance/sub-par graphical characteristics, such as flickering shadows and missing textures.

Careful. Many of those who have no knowledge of CPU architecture may see "out of order" and think it's a broken CPU.

Are people really still arguing/concerned with cpu speed/power??? Remember Skyrim on the "most powerful system of the 7th gen"? That was a RAM issue I heard. And what about ps3 having graphics way ahead of the 360? Oh dang, $599.00 and the cell doesn't mean a better GPU, bummer.

I buy Nintendo so I can play Nintendo games, not so I can pretend cpu power = high performance games.

Blaming the Wii U CPU when their company is on the verge of financial collapse? Classy. Not a very good scapegoat, though.

Having a fourth SKU for Last Light would add to sales and help the company survive (if it lasts that long). If THQ fails to start repaying Wells Fargo in January I think it's all over for that company. Sell off the studios they have left, let publishers with money in the bank finish those games. I really want South Park Stick of Truth.

A Wii U version isn't financially viable, not only would it cost too much to make, it probably wouldn't sell well.

Wii U development may be more expensive than Wii, but it's still not "Cell expensive"

Yeah, that's actually the reason why I'm not too worried about the Wii U TBH, I look at it and I'm thinking "kinda like that x2 5000 with a 550Ti that I revived not long ago with like 4GB of DDR2." while some devs are prolly like "well, this is gonna be a bitch to port...." That machine I revived runs Bullet Storm at 1080p 60FPS btw, true story. Thought I'm pretty sure the GPU in the Wii U is not 550 Ti level lol.....

lol this is coming from the bankrupt company

the sony situation don't let them lauch a monster system ps4 is not going to be a monster maybe microsoft can lauch a system like that, but i think the diferences in graphics are going to be indiscernible in all the 3 systems, well maybe graphics whores are going to see the differences :) lol

None of the next-gen systems will be "monsters".

@bold
Keep dreaming. You do know the Wii U is sold at a very, very small loss right? Imagine what a $400 console sold at a loss would be capable of.

I agree with your first sentence. But I don't think Sony can afford selling a $400 console at a loss (less it's a small one - no higher than $50!). And I also think that the difference between Wii U and PS720 will be that of high end PCs today and PS360; so it won't matter much. It's still the same game.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

But can it run 1080p with 60 frames per sec on 3d while cooking a pop tart like my pc?
