What I'm saying is that multiple developers is the cause of this and it had nothing to do with sony, MS, or Nintendo.  This is about consoles not games.

If the question was what would be the most influential games this generation then I'd Say Gears, Uncharted, and Call of Duty.  This however is about consoles.

If the question was about the most influetial game developers then I'd EPIC, Infinity Ward, and Naughty Dog.

Sony is a publisher not a developer.  They did not go to Naughty Dog and say hey I want this game to be cinematic.  No, Naughty Dog went to Sony and showed them and they agreed to publish it.

Yes, this is about consoles, not games. However, again, without the PS3 (a console), there would be no Ucharted, hence Uncharted's effect on the industry would be gone. Without the PS3, the cinematic focus we see in so many games certainly wouldn't be as common or strong, particularly with third-person games. Naughty Dog, Uncharted 2, and their impact on the indusrty as we know it would NOT exist without the PS3.

Your last statement is wrong. Naughty Dog initially wanted to make a fantasy type of game. But Sony approached Naughty Dog and told them to go after something more gritty and realistic.

Yes Im aware that sony wanted a more realistic game, but it was Naughty Dog who came up with Uncharted not Sony.  And as I said other games does cinimatic games and has done it before uncharted.  It was being progressed before uncharted.  As I said, this is about consoles not games or developers.  This is just people showing bias opinions and yes Im looking at you on this too.

Many games has done cinimatic games like Call of Duty, gears of war, uncharted, Halo, etc  Don't give credit to a console for what developers do.

Some would argue that Uncharted, particularly Uncharted 2, changed the gaming industry as it sparked an unprecedented wave of games shifting to cinematic experiences. Sure, games like Call of Duty and Halo were also influential titles, but not to the extent of Uncharted. Besides, Call of Duty and Halo mainly influenced shooters, while Uncharted influenced third-person games, and really the gaming industry in general in terms of pacing, set pieces, atmosphere, seemless cutscenes, polish, etc.

You can see it clearly with many older franchises being 'modernized' to be more cinematic while changing their roots, with games like Splinter Cell: Conviction, Socom 4, inFAMOUS 2, Hitman: Absolution, Tomb Raider, etc. And without the Ps3, there would probably have never been Uncharted. So it makes sense to give the console credit. There's even been an article written that expresses Uncharted's impact on the gaming industry here

Actually...

EDIT: nvm.

hands down xbox 360 no doubt about

i can go on and on bout what things it brought to the table this gen achievements, online, controller, menu screens, hands free controls and hard core games but any non biased person should be able to look back at the times from 06 to now and see those for themselves

for those saying the the wii the title says shaped, if the wii shaped things then why does wii u's pro controller similar to the 360s size and shape? why is nintendo now focused on getting 3rd party and more hardcore mature games?

the only thing i could see what sonys machine did for last gen would be bringing cinematics to games a good thing depending on who you ask and for having the strongest 1st party which in result forces others to step it up a good thing for everyone but was always a step behind MS in other areas online service, achievements, rumble (lol), XMB, 3rd party support, and advertisements. who cares that it played blu ray who still watches movies by way of physical format? how cares that it had teh CELL it was that that made it difficult to dev for

I'm confused, which of the following don't you agree with?:

1. Uncharted had a great impact on the gaming industry.

2. Without the PS3/Sony, Uncharted would not exist.

3. Therefore, without the PS3/Sony, there would never have been such a great impact on the industry.

4. The PS3/Sony were necessary for much of how the gaming industry has shaped.

Which of these don't you agree with? Yes, there has been cinematic games; I never said or implied that Uncharted was the first cinematic game. So, again, where from the above, is the disagreement coming from?

You seem to agree with numbers 1-3, but you disagree with number 4. Why?

I am shocked.

It is clearly the Xbox360...Wii was forcefully ignored by the industry. The only thing the Wii is responsible for is killing off good companies because their shovelware wouldn't sell on it to fund the real games.

PS3...is in last place still, so it hasn't shaped anything.

1. I agree with. But cinimatics were already there before uncharted so it did not bring anything new.  It was just a great game that perfected its story with good gameplay mechanics.

2.  I agree with youm but once again sony did not make uncharted.  Sony said make a realistic game, they did not say make a cinimatic puzzle shooter game.  That was on naughty dog.

3. Disagree. They did not shape cinimatics what so ever as that has been there for a while before uncharted, and even then unchated was made by naughty dog not sony.

4.  PS1, PS2 definitely shaped many things for this generation but the most obvious game changers this generation going into next generation has been 1. Motion controls.  2.  Achievements.  3.  Multiplayer gaming.

While sony has helped shape this industry in the previous generations they did not bring anything new to gaming this generation.  I will give credit where it is deserved.  Naughty Dog gets credit for making an amazing game but it wasnt even the most inluential game this generation.  That would probably be call of duty.  I dont even like call of duty all that much and I can admit that.  It has the whole cinimatic approach, online gaming, perks, aim down sights, etc etc.

Then when it comes to TPS, I would say Gears is the most influential with its cover system.  Am I giving credit to MS for EPICS success, NOPE.  EPIC made it MS published it.  MS had nothing to do with how the game finished just like Sony had nothing to do with how Uncharted finished.  All I can say about publishers is it was a smart choice investing in those games.

All of them contributed in their own way. None of them particularly stood out as groundbreaking because they really didn't come up with anything new. Just took ideas and improved upon them.

Other than innovations with game controllers, this thread is currently reading more like "Which console implemented the most ideas from PC gaming in order to innovate this gen of console gaming". :P

1. Great, you agree that Uncharted had a great impact on the industry.

2. Great, you agree that Sony/PS3 were necessary for Uncharted's existence.

3. This does not make sense. You just admitted that Uncharted had a great impact on the industry. You also admitted that Sony/PS3 were necessary for Uncharted's existence. Take this sentence:

The PS3/Sony were necessary for Uncharted's existence.

You have agreed to this. Now substitute "Uncharted" with "Uncharted's impact on the industry." This should be fine because you agreed that Uncharted has had a great impact on the industry. Therefore, you should also agree to the following.

The PS3/Sony were necessary for Uncharted's impact on the industry.

Now, just changed "Uncharted's impact" to just "a great impact" and you must also agree to this:

The Ps3/Sony were necessary for a great impact on the industry.

You should agree to this final sentence because I've only included things that you've agreed to. And this sentence, more or less, says the PS3 was at least a partial factor in shaping this generation. If you still cannot understand this, then I won't respond again. I've spelled it out to you as clear as possible. If you still can't see it, then there's nothing more I can do.

As for everything else you've written, it doesn't matter if Uncharted was more influential than Call of Duty or Gears of War; that's not the point. The point is Uncharted was influential.

Also, the fact that you continue to say things like,"Sony had nothing to do with how Uncharted finished." even after the link that explicitely stated that Sony directly told ND to change Uncharted shows me that either you have a really short memory, or you're being deliberately obtuse. Either way, it's growing tiring.
