I voted for Wii but I keep seeing give reasons why ps3 changed this gen and how. Obviously blue ray the ability to store more data on a single disc is very underated.The graphics, the games on ps3 uncharted, god of war, gran turismo, infamous, killzone 2 and 3. Uncharted is epic with everything that game does it changed the game of how to make a game feel like a movie experience. God of war 3 the graphics and detailing unmatched. Killzone 2 and 3 the graphics are insane and won awards to back up my claim. Infamous this game changed the idea of what you can do with an open world and used very unique ways for gamers to play, it destroyed the competitor prototype easily. I could go on and on with games and reasons why but PS3 games and the quality are good reasons to pick ps3. If you bought a PS3 and have alot of the exclusives you know what I am talking about. The PS3 exclusives are truly ballsy games no there not safe titles that sell millions upon millions but they push gaming into new directions. I think PS3 haters forget that PS3 evolves gaming in many ways with sony taking chances on new IP's. Maybe the IP's fail but sony has balls example Starhawk this game is great but has not sold there is no game like it on the market and I challenge anyone on this sight to point out an example of a build and battle multiplayer 3rd person shooter with great graphics and fun gameplay. Sony only fails in marketing in my view they get s F- for marketing.

yeah the wii shaped this generation, it is the biggest boom we have seen in videogames because it reached all types of people and every other company tried to copy what it did, not to mention that thanks to it we now have the stupid terms "hardcore" and "casual" that haters created

I would say Wii > 360 > PS3, but I voted PS3 to piss the OP off.

The Wii obviously for its motion controls and huge success amongst the casual audience. The 360 for achievements and online features. The PS3 for its amazing multimedia capabilities.

I'd say the 360 overall. Aside from the obvious things like online features, achievements, DLC etc, the 360 redefined the download game. At launch, the typical XBLA title was a retro-game/mini-game. MS the released Shadow Complex which redefined the scope and production expectations behind these titles. MS' exclusive titles often also have a supporting web portal infrastructure for sharing game generated content and stats, along with the usual forums, which has seen wider adoption.

While the Wii's control scheme was innovative, my opinion is that the titles themselves are mostly traditional nintendo fare and the control failed to live up to (my) expectations of being able to chop people up with a sword. :D

And no slight on the excellent PS3, but it hardly bought anything new to the table.

I think Xbox shaped this gen greatly but Nintendo Wii did the other half of the work...

Why The Xbox

- They made achievements a standard now. Everybody asks for those and it's now unthinkable to release a console that won't support some kind of achievements.

- Great online integration making almost everygame having some sort of online multiplayer on consoles. Some people hate this but online on consoles this gen is where it is because of the 360.

- Download content, yes I know some think they are the bad side of this gen but to others it's a great addition and Xbox made DLC what they are this gen whether you like it or not.

- Put the light on western devs on consoles. Yes, the market has now shifted to western development and is also the target. Even if Japan keeps pumping incredible games, western games are the juggernauts of this gen. Past gens western games were praised solely on PC but thanks to Xbox we also get them.

- If there's one thing I like the most this gen it is XBLA because it brought a lot to small devs and Indy devs. Also XBLA is home to some of the most incredible indy games.

- Also Xbox proved BlueRay was unnecessary this gen...

Why Wii

- Because of Wii we get motion controls now. Gamers are not exclusively the "core" audience anymore. Grand mas and sisters, soccer moms all want to be part of the fun and now they can.

- Because of Wii, both Sony and MS released their version of motion control thus making this gen longer. The success of Kinect this gen ensured a new version of it next gen and (it's almost a given) next gen will be based of motion... thanks to Wii.

Why not Sony

- Because they followed on almost everything this gen.

Haha I don't care if PS3 "wins"; it's fine by me. I just wanted to HEAR 8well, READ) what people thought. It's apparently a fault of mine to add a poll since people only votes and never explains why :p

Singling out a specific platform for an explanation instead of just asking for an explanation for a person's vote (no matter what platform it is for) makes this look like a bait thread. I didn't vote but that's primarily because I don't believe consoles shape game generations at all. Innovative (and fun) software does.
