I am a PS3 guy but I would haft to say the Wii shaped this whole gen. Sony and microsoft had to adapt to the Wii's game changing controls and interaction. PS3 and Xbox had awesome orignal games but the Wii had something never done and I think PS3 improved on it and forced Xbox to come up with kinect which in my mind failed (tech wise on alot of the games) but is clearly a futurisitic way to game and they can only improve that tech.

I voted ps3 though I think the wii and xbox both had their game-changing elements. With the wii it was of course the motion controls. With the xbox it was the online connectivity and MP which is possibly a par above the psn and also brought the achievements.

The reason for me voting ps3 were the blueray, ps+ and the varied variety of software/IPs that sony has brought out and which imo is the most creative of all the three developers. All of these combined put it above wii and xbox for me.

This question really isn't an opinion based one. It's weird that ps3 is even getting votes let alone the fact that it was tied for first until I voted for the wii.

People need to remember, it doesn't matter who implemented the technology first, it matters who is successful with the technology first. They also need to remember it doesn't matter if you hate what the console has done to gaming. Regardless of what you think of motion controls and casual gaming, anyone who doesn't vote for the Wii clearly doesn't understand what is being asked, and this is coming from someone who has never owned a wii. The only way the ps3 has shaped the future is bluray. Everything else the ps3 has to offer has been done successfully by someone else(including previous sony systems) beforehand.

That's a tough question, one I'm not sure I can answer.

On the one hand, the Wii went viral with the casual market, which was obviously a big deal, but I don't know how much it shaped gaming outside of it's own sphere of influence. It expanded the market greatly but it didn't change the existing market all that much. Sony tried to squeeze into that market but I think it was already starting to wither by that point.

Sony's Worldwide Studios is big for me, and a major reason why I bought a PS3. They produce such a wide variety of high quality games with arguably some of the world's best studios. Games are, after all is said and done, what this hobby is about. They also introduced PS+, which I think could have a big effect next gen, though it was introduced too late this gen to make a difference.

However, I think I'm going to go with the 360, even though it's not my personal favorite. It launched first, and in doing so, I think it set the bar in a few areas, such as online gaming and multimedia support. I don't know that Sony wouldn't have done the same things regardless, as they also had the goal of turning their console into an entertainment center, but Microsoft got there first. In my opinion, the importance of seamless online connectivity outweighs that of motion controls. Of course, Microsoft also brought forth its own motion control scheme, but I think that is something that's going to be a bigger deal next gen.

I voted PS3 because I love to see you getting all worked up about that :). Oh wait, I didn't vote..

I just think it's kinda shitty that almost no sony voters have spoken up. It's getting better though, but what gives??

First xbox brought online gaming so that's not really something 360 really shape online gaming.

What it did bring to the table was unified achievements/trophies. Something that will be in all consoles from here. Correct me if I'm wrong.

PS3 brought bluray discs which will carry on to the next gen. This also affected the HD war between HD-DVD and Bluray so I would put the HD twins even.

The Wii. Hate motion control and it seems pretty much dead to me. I hope. So I'll just put it in last place. Same with a bloody tablet controller. Games using the classic controller were still be good on Wii so this isn't a broad attack on the Wii. Just motion controls.
