You know, I've always hated the idea that you say a few bad things about a company and all of a sudden you MUST BE a fanboy of another company, this was a MS discussion, so they talked about it. I have a huge distaste for XBL myself and BTW Kinect works much better on a PC, but does that mean I automatically only love Sony or only love Nintendo? Fuck no! There are 2 sides to take, not some dumb ass fanboy oh I love you MS/Sony/Nintendo side, you are either on the side of us consumers, or you work for that corporation in question. Video games is not essential to our lives, it's a hobby at best, the power of us consumers can choose what they want, and if they want to pay for XBL, great, go do it, I'm never paying for it again per choice, not because other companies are better.

It doesn't work like that. Local multiplayer is Nintendo's turf ;)
I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!
Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

On the topic of paying for XBLA. I do wish it was free. Like I said I'm cheap and wish everything was free. But since it's not I don't think the price of a year of XBLA is too much. I buy my year subscriptions on Amazon.com when it's on sale for $35. That's comes out to about $2.91 a month. Even for someone as cheap as me can't say that $2.91 is enough to get upset about. |
Dude the concept of online was a free concept until Microsoft came in. Don't call yourself cheap for wanting online to be free like it always was. Microsoft broke even on Xbox Live Gold within their first year of the Xbox 360 coming out. PC gamers didnt want to pay them for Windows Live, so does that make them cheap? No. Microsoft knows they can't force them so they just left it to their closed format console where they can charge.

When was the last time you actually used steam? All you have to do is shift-tab ingame and you get instant access to your friend list, IM, a web broswer and all that jazz, and you can start voice chat super fast with anybody. You can't argue on any point that XBL is better than Steam, there is 0 case here, it's not a contest, because there is no need for one in this case.

There isn't much difference now. The main thing i like is the unified match making system. But sony would not have improved psn if ms didn't force them by having a better online experience earlier on in this gen, and ms wouldn't have had the better online experience without the monthly subs. |
Microsoft broke even on Xbox Live in the first year it came out, give or take according to pachter as he cited 2-3 million Xbox Live owners was the even count. It wouldn't matter to me if Sony kept PSN free with ads to subsidize the status quo. What is Microsoft doing with all this profit they've been making off of XBox Live for the past six (nearly seven) years after launch? You're completely right, Microsoft taught Sony how to make online properly. Sony is learning and at this point next gen is going to be extremely close in online. I believe the growth of PSN Plus will play a part in future success next gen as it grows into a larger entity, much like Xbox Live did last gen.

? Have you been using Steam? The interface on Steam is vastly more user friendly. It uses tabs instead of scrolling, making finding your options easier, but then again thats always a PC advantage. Xbox Live and PSN are prettier to look at though, but then again I don't think that matters.

You are 100% right. But $2.91 a month isn't sending me to the poor house. I probably drop 10 or 20 times that in donation and tip jars each month.
I use XBL Gold so rarely it's actualy kind of stupid that I bother to pay for it. I just don't play online games, except on very rare occasions. But $35 a year is so little that I go ahead and buy it when Amazon.com has the deal. I do feel like a sucker, but I probably lose more than $35 a year in change and don't even notice it.
I'm not saying I'm cheap for wanting XBL free. I'm saying I'm cheap and wish everything was free, but despite that, I'm not overly bothered by the fee.

it doesn't matter what they do with their profit. Like i said i dont hate companies for making a profit nor do i feel entitled to their profits(this is the exact behavior pathcer was talking about in the video). They offered a service at a a price i agree with and that i like that is all. if i didn't want to pay for it i could always go to sony or nintendo or pc(i do play most on pc already). But xbox live is a service that suits what i like and is a good price for me. I will most likely enjoy it on the next console too.

Gaming on steam is a pain in the *** comapred to XBL.
It does less actually. Well it does more if you count hackers / cheaters, but less if you count features. It has good deals every now and then, but that is it.
Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
