38. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader, GC (2001) LucasArts/Factor 5 (last year 37)

This game encapsulates the classic moments of the original trilogy's timeless battles and packs in some other varied, interesting missions, with lots of secrets, a challenging medal system, and some truly epic battles, this game really captures the appeal of the jet-fighter genre while perfectly synchronizing with the legend of Star Wars.

For 37: "Story mode" is a very accurate name for this game's single-player mode. Some stage names from this game include "Jelly Pipe," "Neuron Jungle" and the aptly-named "Frustration."

Have you gotten a chance to play rebel strike? the second Rogue Squadron game on the GC it even includes pretty much the whole of Rogue Leader in it but with a co op option for all the stages, definately worth checking out but I hear it has become a bit rare now. Great game tho..... THERE'S A LOT OF FIRE COMING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THAT DEFLECTION TOWER..... good times.

Yes, but i felt the on-foot stages (especially the atrocious Sarlaac Pit and Jedi Training levels) were enough to water that game down to being off the list, although the space segments were still sublime.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

38. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Dude raider and the cinematic game movement starter.

37. We got it as the first in a series when it's actually the 7th in this long running strategy series that has been on handhelds and consoles.

Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword

^ I don't know enough about the Fire Emblem franchise to know if that's spot on the money, but my guess is Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky?  I hear that's quite a long-historied series.

Clue for Game 37: Incredible single player experience, highly lackluster and peculiarly designed online. Derided by many for reasons that have nothing to do with the gameplay.

Mass Effect 3?

Nope; I love ME3's online.

You are close in that people deride this game because of something to do with storytelling, but in this case it is nothing to do with the ending.

Diablo 3?

Nope, the online in this case is entirely distinct from the single player.

And not Deus Ex either. The problem is not with the dialogue per se.

My last guess: Metal Gear Solid 4.

Not sure if that fits with your multiplayer thing as I never played it online.

would you believe I actually liked some of those on foot bits? being on the ground in the battle of hoth was a bit of a flashback to me as a kid cos I had all the star wars figures + a giant AT-AT toy so I didn't mind reliving my childhood.

Your last guess is correct.

Metal Gear Online is rubbish.

How's Epic Mickey been? The scuttlebutt on my recommendation thread has me down to a choice between Ninja Gaiden and Batman instead.

#41: Super Mario Sunshine (2002)
Last Year: 39

Super Mario Sunshine is the red-headed stepchild of the 3D Mario titles. Taking place in the island paradise of Isle Delfino, Mario's GameCube adventure had him cleaning pollution with a talking water pack named F.L.U.D.D. This is truly a departure into the wacky and weird, even for a Mario title. Sunshine takes 64's more open ended world and runs with it, creating the most open Mario game to date (which is enhanced by all of your waterpacks different platforming-enhancing abilities). This is both a blessing (it is quite fun to explore the different areas) and a curse (the actual platforming isn't as sublime as any of the other Mario games), and this is especially apparent when the best parts of the game are when your waterpack is taken away and you're put into pure platforming stages. Maybe they'll take this more streamlined, platform utopian idea and apply it to a future Mario game... just maybe...
