42. Grand Theft Auto 2 (PS1)

Unlike the modern GTA games, you don't actually have to play any of GTA 2's missions to 'complete' the game, as progress is achieved by earning a particular score and then moving onto the next area. As such, it's entirely possible to just go on a rampage with a tank and beat the game, although the best I managed in that regard was progressing through an entire area just with the tank. If you don't want to do that, playing through the game the traditional way by completing missions is also just as fun as treating it as a chaos simulator.

Game 41 is regarded as an all time classic, and it may have been higher on the list had I not played it 7 years late.

Forgot to add hints for number 41:

- One of the many dickish Japan only best versions of a PS2 amazing Square RPG.

Kingdom Hearts 1/2 Final Mix +?

My #42, as partially guessed by Kresnik, is The Last Blade.

I missed out on this when it first came to arcades and then the Neo Geo home console, but I was able to play it on GameTap. Just a brilliant, balanced, gorgeous fighting game. The coolest part of the game is that it allows players to select a mode of attack before each match: speed mode for fast and deadly combos; power mode for slower but more devastating moves. If it wasn't for SoulCalibur, this would probably the best weapons-based fighter ever.

Hmmm...this is tough. Maybe Final Fantasy VII?

Correct, it's Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix +. Thank goddess for Fan translations, otherwise we could all be old and gray before Square finally decides to release the FM versions outside Japan.

OoT?

Updating a few days worth of games today.

47) Costume Quest (PSN) - A fun and engaging game involving a bunch of trick or treating kids on a halloween night. The controls are simple and fun. The dialogue is adorably cute and funny. Colourful world filled with small adventures that makes one feel like a kid again.

46) Killer 7 (GCN) - Before there was No More Heroes. There was Killer 7. A really old game with a convoluted story often compared to Metal Gear. You play as a chracter with 7 alter ego's you can switch into to solve the games puzzles and firefights. The cell shaded graphics add to the appeal of this really bizzare world and screams of the jumping screaming enemies gave my teenage self a few nightmares.

45) Bastion (PC) - One of the most original to come along in recent memory. The combat is fun with varied weapons, the levels are gorgeous as they form right in front of your eyes. The narrator describes your every move as if you were in colourful storybook adventure of your own. Oh and the soundtrack is amazing too.

44) Mass Effect (PC) Right from the beginning it feels like you are in for something epic. Also unlike most other game that keep on building upto something big but that something big never happens is not the case here. The universe is so well done and is sure to capture the imaginations of gamers for years to come. Science fiction might be a dying genre in the world of movies but Mass Effect proves that it sure is alive and stronger than ever when it comes to interactive entertainment.

43) Guild Wars 2 (PC) - The only mmo where i put more than 2 hours and did not get bored. The art design in this game is simply gorgeous. The combat is fun and can stand toe to toe with any other action rpg. The world is massive with 100's of hours of content. More importantly it is a game where people are happy when you join their fight and help them out. That leads to a pretty cheerful community. After close to 50-60 hours in the game i am still scratching the surface ane exploring more and more place as i slowly lead to fight the elder dragons.

42) Heavy Rain (PS3) - A game like many others. Described more as an interactive movie Heavy Rain is a pioneer of sorts for its genre. It can be a game for people who don't play games or enjoyed by seasoned veterens looking for something different while taking a break from the next team death match or slayer. The story is told well as you take control of 4 different protagonists tryingt to unravel the mystery of what is going on. While playing it i was not having a traditional fun one usually has while playing games but i was sure engaged in the world and story as i could be. A true gem of an experience surely not to be missed.

#42: Prototype (Xbox 360)

What can I say? I just had a lot of fun messing around in this game, I admit. It would've been nice if the campaign had been a bit more fleshed out, looking back, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate a lot of what I could do in the game. The powers were interesting to mess around with, and some of the boss fights really were quite enjoyable. Still haven't played number 2, I admit, but I'd definitely like to get to it eventually.

Hint for 41: This game is supposedly about a famous pianist's final few days of life before dying in his sleep.

Hmm

Eternal Sonata. I always wanted to play it but never got around to it :/

42. Super Mario Bros DX, GBC (based off 1985 and 1986 NES games, GBC version 2000) Nintendo (40 last year)
This game brought together one of the most influential games in history and its direct, super-hard sequel. For a lover of platformers such as myself, these games are foundational scripture, and i owe so much of what i love in video games back to this one, coupled together in a handy Game Boy Color version adding special challenges and the original Mario Bros 2

41 attempted to Double the Fun in this franchise, though it would have been better if it had had online play instead of just LAN.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
