Forums - Nintendo - One last time before The Wii U launch! Pachter: Wii U A New Console Using Last-Gen Technology

Someone needs to tell Pachter it is not 2006, and the new Nintendo console is the Wii U, not the Wii.

The Wii was a GameCube on steroids, the Wii U is modern technology.

I think you are looking at this in a backwards way. It's not that EA listens to Pachter, rather Pachter gets paid by EA to declare every move EA is making as the future of gaming. This also fits, because EA despises Nintendo and Pachter's outlook for Nintendo always happens to be negative.

Why does EA hate Nintendo?

Also EA is best pals with Sony.

Serious question... did he get anything right? If yes what?

who is he working for?

If I remember right, he was pretty close on predicting the sales of Modern Warfare 2.  A lot of people thought he was too high, but that game exploded.  I think that is about it though.

He works for Wedbush Morgan, a financial services and investment firm.  I can also pretty much guarantee that he is providing some type of services to at least one of the major third party developers.  He shills for them all the time.  As evidence, way back in 2008 (when the Wii was still flying off shelves) he said that Nintendo would launch a WiiHD in 2009.  He had no good reason for it, but it would have certainly been great from a third party perspective.  It would mean easy ports, and they could use that prediction as an excuse to hold off on making games for the Wii.  He also said that Sony should drop the price of the PS3 back when they were still taking a huge loss on each unit.  Who does that benefit?  Third parties.

And here we go again:

"To remedy Nintendo’s “predicament,” Pachter suggested that Nintendo should license its IPs to mobile game developers and put GameBoy and GameBoy Advance games on cell phones where it would reach hundreds of millions of people and possibly create a new target group to sell Nintendo hardware to. However, Pachter said that he thinks Nintendo is angry at the mobile market for what it is doing to their systems and too stubborn to go this route."

This is just a disguised version of the old, "Nintendo should go third party" arguement.  Third parties would love to have less consoles to support.  It would be much easier for them to make games if the amount of different hardware contracted.  Their audience would be less spread out.

He also said Vita was "dead on arrival"

from a gamer standpoint pachter is not wrong but from a more open gaming world he is.

He is just bashing.
The 360 was a last Gen technology Console too cause we entered with the PS3 the BlueRay Gen.
Next Gen Microsoft will be again behind cause Sony will enter partly the Stream Generation(and this is the future!) while Microsoft is just inventing BluRay(they will never acknowledge Sony had it before them so they say they invented it) but he doesn't complain about them.
Its always bashing Nintendo or Sony - Its kinda weird.

ignore the guy already!

You can't be an Analyst God without those blasphemous infidels cursing.

And shame on you, Ninty! D0m3d again? Can't you try and be just a little more original?

That last gen technology might end up being the best idea. Over 120 developers have closed since the start of this generation. Most of them trying to compete in a world with ever increasing development costs.

I'm comparing the control scheme of the Wii U with the DS to dismantle his "Wii U's control scheme isn't intuitive" argument, nothing more. But if you want to talk about 2004, the Wii U is getting the sequel of a 26M seller on day 1, unlike the DS. If that can't sell systems I don't know what can.

Games sell systems, not power. The most powerful console never won a gen. Those core gamers bought the PS1 and the PS2 despite being less powerful than the competition.

Except for the SNES and don't even bring the Jaguar, Neo Geo or CDi those were never real competition like the Genesis was.

Why the Neo-Geo wasn't real competition? Don't bring the price argument here because the Silver Neo-Geo was 2x the price of the SNES, just like the price of the 20GB PS3 was 2x the price of the Wii.
