Forums - Nintendo - One last time before The Wii U launch! Pachter: Wii U A New Console Using Last-Gen Technology

Player2 said:

Pachter said that Nintendo, “Should not have made a new console on last generation technology.”

It worked so bad last time...

Why is this guy everywhere? His predictions are almost always wrong. Someday I'm going to find his face in a cereal box...

“Should not have made a new console on last generation technology.” He further added, that the Wii U’s gamepad and new control scheme is not intuitive or innovated enough to capture the masses like its predecessor the Wii did.

Patchers is really level headed analyst and he normally speak alot of sense. More often then not people just refuse to acknowledge the logic in his arguement (like above). The Wii U will do fine but does anyone actually think that the Wii U pad has anywhere near the selling power of the orginal wii mote??

After years of listening to Pachter, I still don't understand why we quote him all the time. Does he have any significant weight in the gaming industry? Why do we care about him?

I never said it was just an HD upgrade.. Wii HD.. Wii U.. it's basically a super wii.. tbqh it does seem like a generational leap.. but the wii was almost a generation behind in hardware.. so it's a leap from a console who would have been the most powerful last gen.. to a console who would be the most powerful this gen..

this guy needs to shut up.

If anyone cares to watch the episode, here's link - I think it was interesting:

http://www.gametrailers.com/full-episodes/csozbo/bonus-round-game-industry-2012--nintendo-s-performance

Is that the one where he admits he's just trolling for hits?

No, he stated several times in various Pach Attacks (that's his "show") that he trolls fans (of all sorts) sometimes on purpose  - but usually it's in good spirit - this is Bonus Round, and there were 3 people (+ Geoff off course) talking about WiiU this week.

The control scheme in the Wii U is a DS with the top screen replaced with a TV. Personally I've never heard people saying that the DS was not intuitive.

Innovated enough? Well, that was easy to say. Nobody has innovated so much like Nintendo did last gen in the last 20 years. It was very unlikely that they were going to innovate this gen more than the last one, they aren't magicians after all.

Well is he wrong? Nintendo refuses to give us specs on the Wii U and we have yet to see any games on it offering noticeable improvements over PS3/360.

I can't wait to get the head-to-head comparisons.

EDIT: I do think the Wii U will sell well though. I agree with Pachter that this console was needed 1-2 years ago.

I like Pachter. People hate on him bc either they're bandwagon jumpers or they get upset too easily.

I keep having an issue viewing pics on this site :(. Anybody else experiencing this?

GT etc made him famous and now he simply says what others tell him to say to generate clicks and money. Its not always his own opinion you know. I am pretty sure you can hire him and make him come up with weird predictions.

This is also why the stuff he says occasionally contradicts stuff he said a month before.
