Resident Evil 3, God of War and Patapon... Patapon incorporates music perfectly into its gameplay

Ocrina of time???

I was thinking the exact same thing. How the music weaves seemlessly in and out depending on situations and characters/enemies near, etc... I don't think any game before it had done anything like that.

Music? Gameplay? Seriously, it's ridiculous to suggest anything other than a rhythm game.

I think maybe you actually meant to ask which game wove music most effectively into its narrative, or perhaps experience.

Again, I must say

In that case -- that we're talking more about the narrative than the gameplay -- I might agree. Ocarina, Majora, or Wind Waker. I'd have to think about it more.

If we're talking about the overall experience, it's much more debatable for me, but the Zelda series as a whole is definitely up for consideration.

I think he is more referring to the adaptive audio and dynamic musi in Ocarina of Time. This isn't something you can apply to the whole Zelda series; it was specifically Ocarina of Time's innovation.

Definitely also Loom, one of the pioneers of music integrated into gameplay ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yc4TKXyAaNA ).

Wasn't this the game were the spells (music notes) were random generated and if you didn't write them down you were screwed? like me... I returned to the game after a while but I lost my little paper with notes.. -_-"

After playing Okami for the first time recently I have to say that the themes for just running around the fields really get me into that game. They make me feel the scale of the adventure somehow like I know it's a long journey but so epic at the same time

amnesia the dark descent does only work so good because of the music/sound. it's freaking scary because of this.

There's Skies of Arcadia too, which has music which evolves based on situation and location, I.e, as you approach a certain area certain instruments are introduced into the music, and eventually the music transforms. Then there is the evolving battle music which changes based on the progress or situation in the battle.

I thought about changing the thread title after we got a slew of rhythm game replies on the first page.  But you know, even with the slightly-ambiguous and probably-a-little-wrong title, we still seem to be getting tonnes of different games brought up, with everyone interpreting it a little different.  There have been some awesome suggestions so far, I've thought, so why change it now :)

I loved how music was a gameplay mechanic in Ocarina of Time.

I LOVE ICELAND!
