I understand what Nintendo is doing, they know early adopters and die-hard Nintendo fans would buy the Wii U even if it released with virtually nothing. They're going to sell out at launch regardless. However, I think they, and their customers, would be best served by a big game being released for the system over Christmas. That might push some people into a Wii U who might otherwise buy a PS3/360.
Are there any dates for the launch window? I can't find any, other than a few with "next year" penciled in.
Right now they're trying to sell the hardware more than the software. They're trying to get people to buy into the controller. That's the focus. I think that works really well for some demographics but I can't see the core crowd jumping for it en masse. It's going to take games.
I'm also curious to see if third party publishers other than Ubisoft end up advertising for it. Can we really expect publishers to buy ads for games that have already released on other systems? Advertising, I think, is going to fall to Nintendo, and they're going to have to buy exposure much the same way as Microsoft and Sony. They're in direct competition now, let's see if they act like it.
