Sony has clarifed that the shipments are for Move contollers only when they released the first batch of numbers for it.

'Accurate "as of November 2010," the figure is purely for the Move controller itself, excluding the PlayStation Eye camera also required to use the Move and the optional--but preferable--navigation controller.' - Source

It won't happen.  However, as long as MS doesn't start selling 360s for $50 a pop, then it should happen mid-late 2013.  MS may overtake them again for the holidays, but when the PS3 passes it again early 2014, there's no looking back.

Interesting. So there is no way to know how many PS3s are Move enabled. Sony says 15m Move controls have shipped, but if everyone who buys Move buys four than the number of people with Move is less than 4m.

4 each? Lol, you're joking, right?  I would imagine quite a few have 1, as most mulyiplayer games have you take turns.  And those that do have multiple controllers, most only have 2.  I know for ioi's estimates of install base, he was dividing the number sold by 1.5.  So let's say 14M have actually been sold to customers, that would be an install base of ~9.33M.

You must have missed my use of the words "if" and "than" which makes the following statement hypothetical.

Well, I'll keep thinking the reasonable estimation is correct, and you can continue to think the worst case scenerio is true.

It should be noted that the 360 was released a year earlier than the PS3. This means that the PS3 has already defeated the 360 in sales-per-year by a rather substantial margin. This is due to the fact that the PS3 is catching up to the 360 in the US but dominating the European and Asian markets. It would also be wise to take into account the amount of 360 consoles that were purchased multiple times due to defective RROD units.

I don't believe it's true. All I did was estimate the worst case to go against Sony's best case. Obviously the real number is somewhere inbetween. My whole point, from the begining, is that nobody knows for sure how many Move enabled PS3s are out there, but it surely isn't 15m. I find it amazing how many people have twisted my words and disregarded their meaning.

Nope will not happen. My guess is that they will catch up in october/november 2013. All depending on news on the new consoles whether they can keep up during the holidays.

The gap is now widening. Not as much as last year, but widening.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

It should with shipped numbers, but I don't think with VG Chartz numbers.

next time we get shipments, ps3 passes 360.

I disagree. But how will we know?

You really don't think Sony's not going to announce they sold more PS3's then X360? It's going to be heard around the world.

Sony hasn't put out a best case scenerio, they have only told us how many Moves have shipped.  As for my estimation (technically ioi's), it is the middle ground.  A best case for install base would be if every person only owned 1, which would make the install base ~14M.
