Google docs isn't as good as ms office. I am no expert with it, but when I have edited my office documents with it, it has messed them up. Also it did not have all the functions which ms office has. Just carbage compared to ms office.

Now you are talking about mass market stuff, which proves my point. Carbage, can't play all the videos.

No, I don't think Win is the best OS. I'm actively looking to replace it over time as it becomes less dominate just as Chrome has passed IE in browsing and Android in the mobile sector. Win has lots of flaws and MS is especially a price gouger.

GDocs will do anything anyone needs to do who from students of all ages to small businesses. Finance, marketing, large business with crazy excel charts will of course need the more robust Excel or Word. Additionally, of course going between the two will have oddities in changes as its trying to emulate Word/Excel. However, working solely in one or the other provides no loss. (I use Gdocs for everything outside of work and know I could use it all for any items I do at work, but I don't make those decisions on what apps to use)

SurfacePro is not a complete package. Its a low-end laptop in a tablet casing at 2x - 3x the price.

Would you also compare the old PS3 with a Linux PC? They're both computers after all, yet they have very different functions and are suited/optimised to very different tasks.

Like I said, the comparison is flawed. Surface Pro is effectively a laptop with a touchscreen and is a completely different market segment. If you have the money then great as it can function as a tablet, but you're also paying for a full blown laptop on top of that.

Nope applets don't work either. However, that tech is going the way of the dodo and honestly I never see these anymore. Like Flash, its just being dropped from web technologies.

It still seems to me that you are just not the right use case for tablet. SurfacePro will likely fit your lifestyle better, but again... going back to your post I originally quoted. Its not black and white like that. all the apps and such are not garbage as compared to windows (full version). Only differense are going to be with old tech, niche tech, high-end professional applications, console games.... the last two are slowly being mitigated as the mobile market begins to replace the desktop experience.

Of course not. PS3 is a video game console, while pc is a personal computer. A tablet is a tablet, while another tablet is a tablet. Your comparison is flawed, nothing else.

It's not just a tablet though is it? It's a laptop that you can use as a tablet. You also pay near double the price of an average Android/iPad tablet for that extra functionality.

You're comparing a laptop to a pure tablet. When Surface Pro is released, it's unlikely to be compared to the iPad or the Nexus 10. Tech sites will be comparing it to equivalent laptop devices and ultrabooks (and most will also be running Windows 8). Your comparison is as absurd as the one I posted above.

Google docs does not do what anyone needs, not for every small business or every student. That is just a fact. Yes, it is a fault of emulation. Too bad that ms office is the dominant office suite, which means that there will be a lot of emulating. When it does not work, google docs is useless.

I am a pc gamer and some more! I have 2 desktop pc:s and one of them is actually a pretty decent computer. In fact it would be a fair guess that there are few users on this site who happen to have such a device. Are you aware that there are plenty of games which run quite fairly with such specs?

Almost all of my 3gp videos do not work at all, some older divx codecs have problems playing at all/with sound. At least some if not all nero codecs do not work at all. Few hd WMV codecs play choppily. Most of those are videos from our clients or my own old home videos.

It is a tablet which run all the windows programs, it also can be used as a laptop. I'd say that it is the complete package.

Win is what I use now due to greatly disliking Apple's business process and Linux is too cumbersome. I am buying the latest Chromebook as my usecase does not require anything ChromeOS would not allow. In its current state, yes Win is more fully featured and supported. However, for a typical consumer most of that is wasted. Outside of work, I am that typical consumer and ChromeOS is a superior choice. Its faster, more stable, free upgrades for life, safer, etc.

Ok, using "every" is obviosly too extreme. How about greater majority? k-12 can do anythign they would want. Greater majority of college degrees would suffice from only GDocs as well. Same as small businesses and probably all home users. I think the overall market for an Office has an easy majority that would never need the features MSOffice has that Gdocs does not. You can do any document with tons of specialized forms. spreadsheets with all formulas and charts. presentations and so on. Its all there.

The hardware on the SurfacePro is relatively equal to Nexus10. A dev could easily put the same game on it, including DX11 tech. Current it has not, but that will change in 2013.

There are media players in the play store that state they play 3gp (blackberry) video files. Maybe older codecs will have issues, but seriously? I'd have the same issues with windows in finding a codec for some 1990's codec. That's just how it works and I have troubles sometimes with my old cell phone videos playing back in win7. If you're having issues, you probably need to hit up XDA or other android dev sites and see what media player is best for your uses... also might want to focus on transferring your old files to newer tech.

I'm been doing that myself and loading it all in <15min chunks to Google+ for permanent storage and backup. As long as its less than 15min, its unlimited storage for free and that format will always work as it simply moves with Google.
