In my opinion, ARM tablets are the future. The X86 tablets cost more, last less. They can do more in theory, but when you need to do serious work, you need an actual computer. I don't believe they will sell a lot. Would you really consider buying one? You seem to be happy even with a $130 worth of tablet. Nexus 10 (or a Windows RT tablet with proper hardware) would be more than enough for anybody.

After fiddling some time with ipad and various android tablets, yes. Programs as in "apps" are usually carbage compared to what you can get on windows.

Examples? Because, unless I need to do a lot of typing, i.e. need a keyboard, I don't see how that is true in any general form.

Those are pretty self explanatory. There isn't even a decent pdf software on android/ios. Ios has some carbage which adobe decided to dump for free, but that just sucks. Sooo many programs which are far superior on windows computers. That is to be expected from crappy tablets, but a definitive plus for surface pro.

When it comes to what tablets should do, at least in my opinion.

Games, ios/android crap vs windows games.

Browsers, can't find a properly working one with all the plugins. Heck, a simple web page with java seems to be impossible for tablets.

Streaming software. I know there is a sopcast-app for android but even that does not work all the time. On a windows computer, you can get everything.

Video players, there are always some lame codec which won't work on any player or it works with software decoding and is choppy as hell.

I don't know about you, but my daily life outside of work (and VGC) doesn't ever require a lot of typing. Even if it did, I'd just use voice typing which is very, very accurate. Just need to use it so Google can train itself to your voice. For me after using it for over three years now, I have very few issues.

Photo Editors: iOS and Android have built-in photo editing. Is it photoshop? no, but I don't see how any professonal level software would be considered as part of this discussion.

Gaming: I said this before in other threads... its merging. Console gaming will be on iOS/Android as 2013 rolls on. However, small casual gaming is still king on mobile products and will remain that way as it fits mobile user better. So yeah, Windows gaming won't be "better" for very much longer. Plus, you couldn't and wouldn't core game on either of the Surface tablets, so not sure why you even bring it up.

Browser: Guess you haven't used Chrome on Android 4.x. (hint: As of now, its not the stock browser, it will be soon though and beyond screen size, it works exactly the same as my home browser)

Streaming: yeah idk, never use it beyond netflix, hulu, xfinity (cable), nfl ticket, etc.... all that works perfectly. So it must be the more illegal stuff you are referring to, however, all streaming via web I've tried in Chrome browser works fine.

Video: again, I dont' have issues with streaming video. Maybe you'd have to give an actual example of a big (i.e. not some hackerish site no one knows of) where it all fails. Android supports via apps or inherent all forms of video except Flash which is dying anyways.

Which of those require a lot of typing? All I can think of is word and even that could be just reformatting your text on the go. If you want to fiddle with some coding or even a simple excel sheet, that is either impossible or absolute hell on ios/android.

Windows gaming is better, now and forever. Why wouldn't I play any games I want with my tablet? Because you say so?

Streaming video? Some codecs don't work even from sd card. Tversity&co streaming does not play those files either. If you are not going to believe me, I don't care.

You do realize MS Office will be on iOS/Android very soon right? Additionally, GoogleDocs provides all the same functionality and does work fine. But if you're using office software, they you'll likely always want a keyboard as you're doing a lot of inputting of text. That's the only real difference. Its the typing... not either OS.

Windows gaming in terms of core gaming is only better right now... however, if you include OnLive and a bluetooth controller like PS3's then its identical. So you are simply wrong. Additionally, Google and Apple have both either directly stated or had various new patents that show they will be greatly expanding into core gaming with normalized controllers. In 2013 that shift will happen. Its inevitable.

Yes Chrome in Android uses java just fine as well as greasemonkey. A game I was recently playing required it.

Streaming/Video... send a file type or site and I can test. I think you're either uninformed, making it up, or simply using things that are clearly not main stream/common/mass consumer tools.

Are you going to do your work through a phone/tablet? no so its pointless to compare that or tools specific to those fields like programming. You wouldn't do it with a windows based tablet either, you need more robust hardware, kb/ms, etc.
