Forums - Sales - XBox 360 hits 70 Million, YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

Although I agree he's formed a biased conclusion by strictly pointing at evidence that confirms his agenda, I'd like to see a breakdown of sales of multiplats compared to the install base per region. I've been thinking for a while now that the 14m lead the 360 has in NA isn't really translating into much higher sales in line with the much higher installbase, but I may well be wrong.

Piracy is obviously a reason, but also the stronger sales of the PS3 at the moment.

225k PS3 new PS3 owners this week want games to play. Even if they also own a 360. Theoretical multiplat distribution for them is now 50:50 instead of the previous 100:0 in favour of the 360.

Now in the USA the marketshare between the HD consoles is 62% for 360 and 38% for PS3.

Some recently released games:

Dishonored: 64% 360; 36% PS3
NBA 2K13: 56% 360; 44%
Resident Evil 6: 61% 360; 39% PS3
XCOM: 62% 360; 38% PS3
Madden: 55% 360; 45% PS3
Borderlands 2: 70% 360; 30% PS3

My conclusion: Sports games do better on PS3 and First Person games better on 360. The rest is pretty much in line with the marketshare.

Its kinda funny the amount of people yelling "shipped not sold"

You guys do realize MS gets their cash when they ship a console not when its sold to a consumer. All that matters to MS is shipped numbers

That is correct, but we don't really care about the financial situation of the big three in terms of whether the float the cost or not.

The point of VGC is to track how many people actually buy consoles and handhelds from retailers.

Hum? I do care. Profits are way more interesting than the userbase to me.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I think @outlawauron meant the main focus of VGC is not financial... VGC works with sales to end user... so user base is more important here than profits or anything else... maybe an economy forum is more focused in these facts.

So, i was reading the comments of these articles recycling the 70m news and this is what came to me

Isn't the more important question how many active consoles of each company there are today ?

I mean the 360 was being manufactured for 3 whole years with a reported fail rate of over 50%, people's comments were about how many 360 consoles each of them had bought !

At the end of the day it's all about how many consoles are alive and kicking at this moment.

That's your issue. Both Sony and Nintendo start off with a handicap that is thet strong yen, profits don't tell the whole story. Userbase is everything.

Already the third time I answer that question this month.

MS extended the warranty to 3 years. If they couldn't repair your 360 anymore during that time you got a free replacement model -> a more reliable one.
MS doesn't count replacement models in their shipment data.

Good job by MS.
Don't think many expected it to be this succesful prior to launch.

a more reliable one.

Before Jasper there where no "more" reliable ones. It was a structural defect.

So, the replacements were a loss on MS's part. Didn't that set them back financially ?

it should be noted that while a this is obviously shipped out numbers from Microsoft to all the game stores around the globe and people are saying that the numbers will increase drastically over the holiday season, A lot of the difference between shipped and sold is probably shops getting their Christmas stock in now ready to sell over the next 2 months.

Saying that tho, I mean this is still an absolutely great milestone for the 360 not just as a console on it's own but when you look at its predecessor and how that competed against the Playstation 2 then it's clear Microsoft meant business this time around and weren't happy to just take 2nd place sitting down. Gotta tip my hat to them they pumped out their second home console and shown they've learned quickly how to survive and thrive in the market.

You're probably on the wrong website then...

Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

Shipped not sold and since when is 70 million a major milestone this thread is completely unnecessary. Making a big deal out of over 80 million makes a lot more sense.
