Easy.

I had a full English in 1st class on the Virgin Pendo train on the way to London this morning, I particularly enjoyed the Lincolnshire sausage, bacon and black pudding. Perfect start to the day.

Yum.

What's a full English? Perhaps you could ease up on the UK jargon?

It's hardly UK jargon, I know many people outside of the UK that know what a full English breakfast is. You don't know what a full English breakfast is?

Nom.

Nasty. pork n beans for breakfast? only in the UK.

Absolutely not.

1) As is our right as those on top of the food chain. Are lions immoral for eating deer? Animals don't really show independent thought or reason. They are not the same as people, and they are not entitled to the human rights of freedom and safety from harm.

2) This is a shame, because I still don't want to cause unnecessary suffering for the animals. But this isn't a problem with eating meat.

3) We can, but they don't taste as good and they make nutrition more difficult.

How do we define consciousness? How about, any animal that builds a pyramid or sends one of its own to the moon gets immunity from being eaten

To be honest, this is all sounding rather weak. I eat meat because meat tastes good and because I can really feel no sympathy for farm animals who can know nothing beyond barnhouses and slaughter.

No, but, yeah, the industry has made how we get it seem pretty wrong in a number of ways.

But still, ...

The treatment of animals has to improve, the conditions some of them are kept in are just plain cruel. But eating meat is completely natural and healthy...not to mention tasty.

Natural? Maybe. Healthy? Sure. But is it right or wrong?

I'm not sure why, but I've always pictured you as the type of guy who eats hundreds of pounds of meat a day. It's probably your avatar.

You aren't far off.

that looks so good. That looks like anything you'd find at a bbq place.

We have canines for a reason

Is the human mouth capable of ripping through animal flesh with any practical efficiency? Serious question, as I don't know.

Regardless though, even if it was natural for us to eat meat, that doesn't make it right.

Our jaws are surprisingly strong, so yes they're fairly efficient.

And in evolutionary terms it does make it right; we evolved to eat meat. I doubt our brains would have evolved to the size they are if we didn't eat meat (both in terms of nutrients and the extra brain power needed to successfully hunt).

Edit: If you're genuinely worried about animal welfare but like meat, you can always do what I do and only buy specific meat (e.g. free-range chicken)

Yeah I know, it's almost as nasty as strawberries and cream. They don't go together at all.

Go back to your bacon, maple syrup and pancakes.

1.) I honestly don't see how having the power to do something makes something right. What do you mean by independent thought? I'm pretty sure it's well agreed that mammals are considerably. For example, it's been shown countless times that rats have the ability to learn fairly complex tasks. But again, I understand that choosing the level of intelligence that warrants life is a subjective matter.

2.) Very true. Though as population grows faster and faster, coorporate farming is going to be the only source to eat meat.

3.) Just take vitamins.

4.) Consciousness is hard to define. Awareness of surroundings?

I believe it is inhumane to kill plants/vegetables and eat them or and destroy their babies by eating fruits that are supposed to nourish those babies.
