Forums - Sony - PS4 Development "stretching Sony studios thin"

What Vita support, unlike Nintendo Few if none of their big studio support their handheld. Sony spent two years without giving the PSP a game in 2009.

Drop the Vita and focus on the PS4. Thats what they need to do.

???

Why would that be a good idea?

Sony seems to be on their game when they are focusing solely on the PS3. When the PS4 comes it will need the same love. The Vita needs exclusives or else it is a non factor.

:D I see where you drew that conclusion, but I'm not sure it's a very well supported theory.

I've been saying this forever. Finally someone said what I've been saying on Bonus Round on Sunday.

You're saying I should watch bonus round?

Look, just looking at the circumstances in which they could have drawn the conclusion that developing for two consoles is a weakness, there is only a certain amount of supporting evidence and just as much counter-evidence.

It would also have to be quite the cherry pick to prove half of the supporting evidence.
Possible evidence is found in all the time during which 2 consoles were being developed for.
So, (factoring in development time for a Sept 2005 psp release) we have:

2004-present.

VS

1994-2003

You may be able to see where I'm going with this...

...as in, what is the actual message? How are they strongest when focusing on one console? Is it profit?

All this 4K crap makes me laugh, next gen games will all probably be 1080P.

4K is not for games... it's only for movies and BD apps... there is no limitation for that.

I think both consoles 720 and Orbis come out next holiday season. Both MS and Sony have not talked about next year past the summer at all. I think that MS is going to try and go after Wii crowd and families even harder with non gaming content and kinect 2.0. Sony is going to try and target hardcore gamers, with Vita and Orbis. I doubt Sony will release the most powerful hardware next gen, I think they are seeing that price and word of mouth and games move hardware after the sucess of the 360 and the Wii this gen.

Next year should be the last year Sony supports PS3. After that the console should just get 3rd party support, which surely will be good for a couple of years, but Sony should try to phase PS3 out after 2014 at the latest. After 2013 Sony should focus solely on PS4 and Vita. They shouldn't drop the Vita - what for? Just make it profitable and I'm sure that the story of PS3 and a surge in sales is possible for this handheld when they cut the price. Remember, the development costs for PS4 will be 2-3 time higher than the costs for a PS3 game, so many developers won't be able to make this jump easily. Cost of a Vita game is much smaller than the cost of a PS3 game, so it should be supported, since in 2-3 years the possibility of profiting on PS3 will be significantly smaller, than on a Vita, which will still be attractive as the "current gen" console.

PS3 could start competing with PS4 if both Sony and 3rd parties stay on this console instead of going full steam on PS4 and it would canibalise the PS4 sales. Vita is a handheld so it's not competing with a home console, that's why Sony has to convince 3rd parties to switch to Vita instead of staying with PS3. Supporting Vita is even better for Sony, since they would not only earn money from games, but people would have to buy new hardware, so this means additional revenue for Sony. Just think, one AAA PS4 game equals 5-6 AAA Vita games. Vita projects will be petty stuff in comparison to PS4 projects, and having simmilar price at retail will earn money. Vita just needs a couple good games and... good luck and good will. I hope it can make it.

I hope they'll release the most powerful console on the market or equally powerful but cheaper than  X-box 8. MS plans (probably) to bundle Kinect 2 with the console, which allows Sony to buff up the console at the same price or sell an equal console cheaper. I couldn't care less about Kinect, so I'm down with both solutions, I think the second one is much better. Remember that PS3 was just marginally more powerful than the X360, but it was significantly more expensive. That's why MS managed to gain success.

I've been also calling for a year that PS4 will be 4k compatible. It won't play games at 4k, but will stream 4k TV, apps, etc. I will be very surpriced if they don't include 4k in PS4.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Not a good Idea.  Vita is selling poorly now, but it can improve.

If this is true that Sony's next console will be super powerful, that means that it will either be very expensive, or will cause Sony to take massive losses on it. Sony has become unable to learn from their mistakes. This may be Sony's last console.

I believe that Sony would have to repeat the same stuff to ensure that they deliver quintessential products with 1st party studios . Microsoft wouldn't wait any longer with 360, which is in its eighth year making Sony release their console around six months later. So initial losses are a high possibility before they can start breaking even with their 3rd party support. Sony's last console, NOT yet. The PS brand's still strong and has a great possibility to shockingly oust Microsoft's console out of business on a worldwide basis.

I'm pretty sure 4K isn't guaranteed !!
