$599.99 at launch then... I'm sure it will be GODLY powerful... But it will cost too much, and Sony could be in trouble...
Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

I don't even see a need for Sony to release a new console, same with Microsoft. The consoles that they have out right now are still around 300$. Can you imagine how much their next-gen console will cost? Anything above 300$ is going to collect dust in the US. These companies should wait until the tech is cheap enough to sell these new consoles at a practical price while still being an actual update to the previous consoles.

4K is not for games... it's only for movies and BD apps... there is no limitation for that. |
Either way, it's not going to happen. They want to release a cheaper console in comparison to the ps3 and pc's can't even do 4k now. It's simply not going to happen. If they release another $600 console ($1000 where i'm from!) it will be a disaster. No one has a 4k tv even to begin with! Some market they're trying to sell it too.

In business terms it makes a lot of sense. Sales in both software and hardware have been declining for the last few years. That's a major indicator the current consoles need some form of refresh. They tried to extend the life span of the gen with Kinect, Wii Motion+ and Move, but none have really done much to stem to drop in sales.

I totally agree with you. I could easily stay with this gen for 2 more years and be totally satisfied. Even the Wii U proves to be incapable of making any shift in the market. It's out but what? Has the next gen already started? Don't think so, I don't feel like next gen is already here. Sony and MS could easily stay with current consoles and keep on outselling Wii U. I think that Sony agrees with us as well, but unfortunately MS doesn't want to wait and I have no idea why. X360 is still very expensive, selling with a huge profit. They could cut the price and sell millions of consoles and games outside of US. I mean, the haven't cut the price for 4 years!
Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!
My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/
My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Considering how 3DS, Vita and Wii U numbers aren't really anything to brag about, I'm not sure that new consoles are an easy answer to this problem. 3DS is doing good now, but only because it's dirt cheap. Wii U on the other hand sells half of what X-box 360 or PS3 sell. It will be a huge risk and huge expense for Sony and MS to move to next gen. The current global economy should also convince them to hold on a bit longer.

I don't know what is the problem here because even a GT 520 can decode a 4k resolution video withou problem... decode and output the video is not that performance consuption... I think even the moderns CPU can decode a 4k video.
PS. Mostly video cards in the market have full hardware acellaration for 4k resolutions but the HDMI used in the card (1.4a) limite the output to 1080p... that's not a videocard limitation.
The GTX 680 and AMD HD 7970 can decode in 4k and 3D (it almost 8k resolution).

First, why do we need Sony's blessing to do anything? There's actually a pattern of Sony lanuching overpriced and overpowered tech going back to even before the PS3, and its not just limited to PS division. Don't act Sony fans don't bash the 3ds either.

Which Sony console was overpriced?? Can't think of any single one. They always sell consoles at a loss. You must have mistaken Sony for Nintendo.
