In business terms it makes a lot of sense. Sales in both software and hardware have been declining for the last few years. That's a major indicator the current consoles need some form of refresh. They tried to extend the life span of the gen with Kinect, Wii Motion+ and Move, but none have really done much to stem to drop in sales. |
Considering how 3DS, Vita and Wii U numbers aren't really anything to brag about, I'm not sure that new consoles are an easy answer to this problem. 3DS is doing good now, but only because it's dirt cheap. Wii U on the other hand sells half of what X-box 360 or PS3 sell. It will be a huge risk and huge expense for Sony and MS to move to next gen. The current global economy should also convince them to hold on a bit longer.
Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!
My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/
My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.
